My son called one Sunday and said we could meet him at the gate when he flies to Nuke School in SC.  He said we could hand him suitcase of clothes, laptop, cell etc  I heard I could hand him his cell phone.  Has anyone heard if he can take a suitcase and laptop on plane as well?

Usually the Sailors take a black backpack with those things and it is thier carry on luggage.  Some prefer to have a padded one to protect their laptop.  I see you are a member of several groups related to his rating, check on them about things that he will be allowed to have or will need to have early on.

My son graduated in early July and we were able to hand him an all black tote and backpack with his clothes, cell phone, computer, shoes, etc.  As soon as he was processed into A school, they took everything except his boxers, i-pod and cell phone away from him and locked it away until he hit Phase 2.  It only took a little over 1 week for him to pass everything and move up to Phase 2 and he's very happy to have his civvies.  It was a lot cheaper to hand him those items at the airport than it would have been to ship (and insure) the packages later.

MidwestMom,

In the New Moms Stop Here Group. we have also created a number of reference pages. They are located just underneath the member icons. Please let me know if there are others topics of interest to include. This topic is one I thought we should have a page on. If you could send me the information on this topic and expand on it, I will add it the the pages (noting "Courtesy of MidwestMom").

I just wanted to let you know that we have also compiled lists of groups to facilitate finding them. They can be found in the "How To Do Stuff on N4M" category under FORUM.

GROUPS: Listed by Name of US Naval Ship

GROUPS: Listed by PIR Date - Pass In Review (Boot Camp Graduation)

GROUPS: Listed by Navy Job Rating

GROUPS: Listed by Geographical Location (States, City, Country)

    GROUPS: Listed by Special Interest

Thanks for helping out.

Regards, BQB.
