The Shadowhawks are an Electronic Attack Squadron & are deployed on the Bush aircraft carrier in the Gulf.

There are 216 sailors assigned to the Shadowhawks -- 190 men and 26 women.  They received pillowcases when they arrived on the ship, so no need to worry about pillowcases for this adoption.

I received this sweet message from our POC:  “…it is so hot out here.  But it seems wrong to ask for anything.  Whatever you do will be received well by our Sailors.  And, thank you for what you are doing, not just for us, but for every Sailor life you are touching.”  He went on to say that our ideas for them would be far better than anything he could think of & he didn’t want to ask others for input as he wants this to be a huge & total surprise.

So, Moms we have our work cut out for us …  One thing I thought we should keep in mind is that they will be receiving their boxes right around  9/11 – the reason they are deployed & still fighting this war on terror that the other side started 10 years ago.  Let’s make certain that our sailors know:

                         “We Will Never Forget.”

Many will have sad memories of that day – NYC, DC & PA, let’s do our best to put a positive spin on things. I was thinking for a theme - “Picnic in Central Park”.  Central Park is a GREAT place for a picnic!

And, August is ‘National Picnic Month.’  In Central Park, people read, play ball, throw Frisbees, children blow bubbles & draw pictures with sidewalk chalk. There are artists painting & drawing, people writing or talking.  Of course, we can’t do anything about walking a dog (& pooper-scooping), but people jog, do yoga & catch some rays while playing in the fountains.  And, of course, eat!!!  (So we need food/snack items.)

Perhaps items can be red, white & blue to acknowledge American endurance on the 10th Anniversary of 9/11.

Shipping will be August 22 – 27th.

These are just my thoughts.  So, let the discussions begin … !!!!

MESSAGE JUST RECEIVED THAT THE FEMALE SAILORS ARE BEING TAKEN ON.  If someone wants to help in some way, contact Lauren.

We're doing some girly boxes for the Shadowhawks!
I missed all the nasty stuff, but after being a Navy mom for seven years, nothing surprises me!  When I belonged to a carrier discussion group that I will not name, I met some Navy moms that are friends to this day and also some of the meanest, nastiest women, too.  I stay out of the forums and keep quiet in the political groups because they can be downright murderous!  Reminds me of when I taught and had to deal with some parents.  I won't stoop to their attacking level.  We have to keep our goals in mind for our military.
So well said Ruth!!  My son has left one carrier and moved to another but I can't bring myself to leave my 'sisters' in the first group...  and bless them they have invited me to stick around!!  The group he is with now just not the same...  they don't love with those wonderful open hearts that I love about Molly moms...  of course I will be the first to say we are a rare breed!!

Oh my... I have dug thru some of my sailor stash...  found some red white and blue...  sticky hands, yoyo's, mini footballs, suduko books, sunflower seeds, jerky, drink mixes...  what fun to pack a box or two with such a wonderful variety of stuff!!

Love this theme NYPD!!

Love that lady!!  Party on Mommas!! (like anything would ever stop  us! haha)

back to the picnic and fending off those darn marching ants...

and the ants go marching two by two... hurrah... hurrah... the ants go marching two by two... hurrah... hurrah

Just got home from an hour at the $$$ store. (See main page about yellow caps.)  We're packing for the "girls."  Not exactly picnic theme, but it could be.  I didn't get the water bottles.  :-(  The recruiters have to use them for recruiting tools and might get in trouble for giving me 26, let along 216!  At the store I bought a variety of glittery journals, pretty ball point pens, a pad of tattoos, lots of hair ties and bands, a few razors, sour apple candy strips, and 10 Littlest Pet Shop pets.  They're so cute!  I might have to go buy another 16.
Ooooh, oooooh Ruth that just reminded me ~~ Michael's craft store has a ton of girlie things in their dollar bins!!  So does JoAnn Fabrics (you can tell where I spend MY free time!)  Michales also has retro candy, like the dots on paper, Butter rum lifesavers, etc.

These girlie things sound so great!  Makes me glad I have a grand-daughter!!  Can't wait to get into glitter, markers, glue and unicorns!!!  I've been waiting a long time for this ... LOL

Lauren and her group of mommas are also working on girlie things, are you all together?  Just wondering.

I'm sure we will have plenty of boy stuff too.

Yep, Lauren and I are partners in crime now....
As Scoobey Doo would say, "RUH ROH"
Double that Pat, I'm coming with you gals to Davenport on the 21st!!!
