Hi all,
Things have been changing in the AECF community over the last couple of years and alot of it has to due with budgets, etc. etc.
Our son is an AEGIS FC so he went to school in Dahlgren and is now stationed in Hawaii with the fleet and is on his second deployment.
My hubby was an FC for 10 years and we lived in Japan for many of those years and loved it. Our sailor son was born in Yokosuka, Japan and really wanted orders there but at the time of his C school graduation there were five sets of orders (five students in class) and the choices were one set to Pearl Harbor and four sets of orders to Norfolk. Because Nick was Honor Grad for the class, he did get 1st pick so he called to ask us what we thought of Hawaii and we said...what are you waiting for?! Grab those orders - so he did and is happy in HI and as an AEGIS FC.
He did get to take just shy of 30 days leave after C school, he wanted to save a few days for the books but it will come down to the orders. Every set of orders will have a Report No later than date and your sailor will need to build their leave time around that reporting date. In most cases, they do get leave before reporting to the fleet but MOST is a magical word - it all comes down to the ...needs of the Navy.
Nope, E4 WITHOUT dependents are eligible to get Japan orders as their first duty station. And from how they explained it to my husband the Navy wants you to get use to the first deployment and military life before going overseas.
I honestly don't know if a sailor with dependents can get Japan orders even if the dependents don't accompany them. But if its their first duty station I would assume they would be there for at least 3 years and I would hate to be apart from my sailor for that long. All I know is if he gets orders to Japan he better take me with him =)
Ash, My son got orders for CWIS m15. It was not what he put on his dream sheet. (he wanted AEGIS)
However, he is very very happy. He can't wait to get to (C)school and start work.
Has your hubby graduated from (A)school yet. What system does he want to work on? I wonder how long he will be on hold for? Let us know what happens.
Hi Priscilla!! My son said that everyone in his (A)school class got orders for CWIS. Your hubby has a good chance of getting the same orders.
Has your hubby graduated from (A)school.??
