hi there .... my son finished  MA school back early June ... there is a small ceremony it is about 30 minutes I did not go  as I had gone out there  to spend a weekend  with him  so chose not to go ...  they call it a pinning where you can  pin his  stuff on him ... Im sure if you  chose to go  you would love it I became friends  with some other moms on here and  they went and took pics for me  so I  didnt miss   that part ... he flew home that same day  and was here for 2 weeks before he left for his next  duty station ( his C school)  did he already class up this week  or  is he still waiting for more to arrive ?

He just arrived on Saturday, he called last night and was going to learn more that evening.  What does class up mean

oh thats good he will sure love it ... they have  at least a little freedom back  IE: cell phone   laptop etc .... class up is just where  they start all their training ...  IF there were enough people then  they would have started today if not then they wait  until there are enough to fill a class ..did you go to PIR ?  My son is now in Washington State and loves it still  in  school  will be  finishing that up in the next  few weeks then out on the line  he is looking forward to that .......... right now mainly what your son will be doing is  classes and  alot of PT .. he wont phase up which means  move up to where they can leave base  on the weekends  for awhile but he will surely love it ... probably in about 3 weeks he will be allowed off base only in uniform and they can go into San Antonio and hang out for the weekends  but will have to be back on base each evening ...... then they move to phase 2 which is off base in the civilian clothes for the weekend... and  phase 3 is the weekend before the  graduate and they are allowed  in civilian clothes and can stay off base  completely  for the weekend ......... does he have a cell phone and laptop with him?

Yes his PIR was Friday and it was amazing, we were so proud and happy to finally see him.  He does have his cell phone and talked a little about some things he will get to do, and I believe his training was starting today with rules and stuff.  Thank you for your information, I think I'm going to like this Navy mom stuff.

yes that was  so amazing and such a proud moment !!! I was soooooooooooo happy it was over took a toll on me when he was  gone and no contact LOLOL.... I was so greatful as I had found  N4M  before he went into  BC so  meet some great moms and  great support ...he will love it  but will be   tired still LOL .  I sent my son some clothes and  a box full of goodies and  his PS3 system etc  that way he had  stuff there that he wanted ... Im suprised you didnt find this site before
Yes, there is a ceremony, Pinning.  It is a much more personal ceremony than PIR.  Read the info in these Discussions:  Graduation Info for Lackland AFB - Navy MA graduation; Places to st... and Break down week by week.  There is sometimes a barbecue or other get together for the families following the ceremony.  Not many parents/families attend, so it is special for those who are able to attend and their Sailors.  I wasn't able to attend when my Sailor's ceremony was moved to Thursday instead of Friday, but my new MA came home the next day.
My son is in MA school and graduates October 14 also.

What a small world, are you planning on going to the pinning in October?

Would like to but I am afraid the money will probably not allow me too.  We will have to see.

Hi there...my son called last night.  They did class up.  He sounds excited about the program and we were teasing him it sounded like his accommodations were like a resort compared to where he was in boot camp.  We are still trying to figure out between what his schedule is and ours if we can make it there.

My son was saying it is pretty nice there too.  This may be a dumb question but what do you mean by class up?  My son tells me somethings but forgets to tell me other things

It means that class actually starts, sometimes they get to there A school and not all sailors are there so they do painting and odd jobs until classes start.  Our son told us there is an older gentlemen in his 70 teaching them how to march and stuff and our son said he can do more push ups then of them.
