While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

PIR DEBRIEFING
INTRODUCTION: A place for parents and others who have attended PIR and graduation weekend to share comments, suggestions and ideas that will hopefully make it easier and more enjoyable for other familes who are preparing for their own PIR events.
WHAT TO DO: This is an 'interactive' forum, with each person encouraged to start new topics (by posting your comments in the 'blank' at the top of each page) -and- respond to individual posts (by clicking 'reply' on that particular post).
ALSO: Over time, I will be organizing some of the posts herein as a sort of 'guide' which will be static -- that is, there will be no new posts to that discussion... thus it will not actually be a 'discussion' but more of a factual and flowing narrative that takes the reader, moment by moment, through happy hours of PIR, covering the basics with good recommendations about what to do, what not to do, and how to do (or avoid) doing it.
To get started on this process, it would be very useful to hear from you regarding which posts and/or particular information do you think should be included? Sincerely, I look forward to hearing from you and transcribing our collective wisdom for those who will attend PIR soon.

kathy no not automatically. Your rct should know her departure date from RTC about 3 weeks before PIR. San Antonio is where Med Corps will be going.

My son was a grad-n-go, but we were still pleasantly surprised that we had the whole day with him. He didn't have to be back to the base until 9:00 p.m. and then flew out at 4:00 a.m. We unfortunately, didn't find that out until the day of PIR. If you can stay later, I'd take that option to be safe.

My son just had PIR yesterday & I have a few things to share--
I stayed (still staying through Monday AM) at Homewood Suites by Hilton in Lincolnshire. Didn't see it listed anywhere here, but I'm an Honors member so I try to stay with the same chain. Anyway--it has been great! Only 7 miles from RTC, great rooms with separate bedroom, sitting area, mini-kitchen w/ full size fridge and microwave. They also do breakfast every morning and dinner M-Th--free.Also business center & laundry 24/7. Complimentary coffee & tea 24/7. Also The front desk staff is very helpful & friendly, seem to have pre-printed directions almost everywhere. Great nearby restaurant called "Sarpino's" that delivers from 10:30AM -2:00AM-pizzas, salads. lasagna, spaghetti, wings, wraps, calzones, sandwiches & even cheesecake. NO SHUTTLE to RTC. But easy to get there by car.
I rented a car and had no difficulty getting in or out of graduation. I drove there, got there for 7:30 and got a seat in balcony. Which I liked because I could still see well and you can really see how impressive all the drills are. There are also big screens on the walls that show the action. I actually sat on the last row in the balcony and thought it was a fine view. Plus there's room behind you for your stuff, and nobody is kneeing you in the back.
Definitely rent or bring a GPS. It's a must have. I rented from Advantage. It's not as fancy as some, but it did the trick. Got a 6 seater Mazda 5 for $80/week. Lock in your fuel cost if you can. Fuel is ridiculous here.
My son was grad & go, but his flight didn't depart until 6PM. They bussed him to the airport at the crack of dawn. I went to airport (OHare), parked in the Kiss & Fly for $2, met him at the USO at Terminal 2 Mezzanine level, and we went out and about until he had to check his bags at 3ish. Could've gone to boarding area with him but he was all teary good-byed out and didn't want to cry in front of his buddies.

What a comprehensive report!!! Thanks for sharing... FYI: Our Sailor's PIR was last November. Since then he has earned his 'rate' (ICFA), been assigned to the U.S.S. Chanchelorsville, and is now stationed at that ship's homeport (San Diego), where he is continuing his academic training. (((hugs)))

I have a questions and am having trouble finding the answer from anyone - my son's fiance is coming up to GL for graduation in October and the plan initially was for them to get married right after graduation...however it looks like he is going to be a Grad & Go - so we MIGHT get to spend 8 total hours together and that is not enough time to get a marriage license and get them married, right? Does anyone have any ideas for us?

Check with the state of Illinois. When I married my sailor ( in Colorado), we got our license and then immediately our certificate.

The Recruit would need to get permisson to get married (the Recruit needs to make the request and then get it approved) and the couple would have to hurry over to the court house to get the license since they both have to be there and also get a waiver for the 24 hour waiting period. It would probably be better to wait and get married some time during A School or right after.
