OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

My daughters PIR IS 11-10-11. Hearing alot about Navy Lodge. How do we book there? My SR is the only one in family who is military. I assumed you had to be military inorder to book a room. Am I wrong?

I'm having a really tough time. We will be flying into Ohare, and taking a shuttle. (I don't like driving in unfamiliar places). I can't decide if I want to stay at the Navy Lodge or go for the amenities?? Anyone have any advice?? Thank You!!

The navy lodge is in a neighborhood of militart housing so there is only a mini mart within walking distance and u need to get a pass to shop there as it is part of the NEX. So if u don't have a car plan on spending money on taxis. There is a restaurant and MC Donalds about 5 mins away by car but the better food options are 8 miles away. They are very helpful at the lodge and will call the cab company for u. So if u want to be close to the base and don't mind spending the money On taxis do it. We were trying to save money so the lodge and car made sense. If u are not renting a car, it may be better for u to stay in gurnee or wakeegan because u have shuttle service.

I would recommend a rental car. The Navy Lodge is 5 minutes away from PIR. The traffic around the base area is not bad at all.

My son graduated 7/22, 02/936!!! Libertyville is about 30 minutes away. We stayed at the Navy Lodge for his graduation and also last weekend when we went back up there to see him get married. The Navy Lodge is in the middle of base housing area, very safe and 5 minutes away from PIR. No pool, restaurant or 5 star, but it is clean 65.00 per night with NO TAX. The rooms have a normal size microwave, refrigerator and stove top. If the Navy Lodge is booked I would recommend staying in Gurnee. Waukegan is not a very safe area, just north of the base. 2 malls to visit one in Gurnee, huge outlet mall (about 10-15 minutes away) with a Bass Pro Shops attached and a Westfield mall in Libertyville. Everything you will ever need is in the Gurnee area on Grand Ave, even Six Flags! Make sure your Sailor takes you to the Nex/Commissary on Green Bay Road, just north of Buckley Rd.(the road that PIR is on). The best airport is actually Milwaukee, WI, straight shot there and less traffic. Southwest Airlines has been the best!!!

Sarge is a Taxi driver that we met at the Meet and Greet. He spoke and gave up so much info. Very nice guy if you need a taxi you can call him if you would like (847) 212-0246. If you stay at the Navy Lodge CALL for reservations, you will have to give them your Sailors name if you do not have a military ID. Take umbrellas!!!

The PIR itself was amazing! Get there early and ride the shuttle! It was only $6 round trip for us. They run every 5 minutes beginning at 6:15 until noon. After that, the price is regular cab fare. We forgot that the shuttles are waiting inside the gate afterwards, not at the shuttle stop so we weren't one of the first ones out but we still beat all the car drivers of which there were many. The shuttle takes you right up to the gate and drops you off. The cars were backed up for quite a ways because everyone in the automobile has to present id. Really glad we didn't drive.
Because my sailor is going to A school in Great Lakes, he had to move to his new barracks. He called to pick him up at around 1:30 p.m. Because we were so close, we could be to the Visitor's Center quickly but didn't realize he had to walk from where he was. It wasn't too long of a wait, though. We were able to take him to the NEX and walk around inside ourselves. We even got to take him to his new barracks that night on the base.
Although the Days Inn was very close and had a McDonald's and a great diner "Full Moon" (not Aisan like it sounds), the place needs to be rehabbed. I wrote this on the survey I received from them when I returned home. Although it is a smoke-free facility, it is obvious that it once was not.....the carpet is clean but old and stained so that is most likely where odors are coming from. Our room was clean but the blanket on my bed had numerous cigarette holes in it and the blanket on the other bed was torn. The free breakfast was okay but the waffle iron needed to be cleaned or laid to rest as it was very old. The staff was frienldy and helpful. The "Business Center" means asking them to print your boarding pass for you at $1 per page. You can rent a refrigerator for $10 and a microwave for $10. There were no irons and ironing boards in the rooms. No snack machines were available but you could pay $5 for a "Grab and Go" snack bag at the check-in counter.
Because we stayed at the Days Inn which was 1.3 miles away, we spent more time with him. I saw the Navy Lodge was even closer. Would I stay at the Days Inn again??? Probably not.
Because we got there so early, we didn't need binoculars. If arriving late, they were needed by those who had to sit up above. It was worth being early to get the seat by his division and he was right in our line of sight. There were numerous people to guide us.

I stayed at the Motel 6, got the room for like 48 a night, cuz i booked like 3-4 weeks in advance. Waukegan, was not bad, especially where we where at the hotel, i could walk to the CVS across the street, hotel was clean and had a pool. staff was really friendly and they do have a shuttel. plus u r like 5 miles from Gurnee the mall and alot of stuff to do. I rented a car, my sailor left the day after grad i stayed until Sunday, we just did site seeing.

Was the Waukegan area nice? One post says not to stay there, that it isn't safe. What was your experience?
