This discussion is for those who have an SR in Ship 04, DIV 820 and 821,  PIR 10/14/11.   These are brother divisions and will be spending a lot of time together from what I understand.  Remember OPSEC rules and for security purposes...no pictures of your SR or names of SR.  God bless you all!

My crying is different everyday (but I do cry at some point everyday) - some days its a happy cry, some days its a sad cry and SOME days its a full blown ugly cry and there is no stopping me :)   Today I cried thinking about the song "Mr. Postman is there a letter for me"  crazy....
Totally know the feeling of not being able to talk sometimes, for fear of bursting out in tears.  Anxiously waiting by the mailbox and that cell phone is glued to my hand while I'm awake and asleep!
Hey girls, when we are able to see our boys, are you going to be bringing any personal items of theirs from home that they may be able to use?  I feel like I should bring some things for him, but the only thing I can really think of is his cell phone.  My understanding is that after the PIR they will be able to call and get online on weekends thereafter to be able to be in more consistent contact with loved ones.  Any ideas of what they may want or need or be able to have?
Was definitely bringing his cell and laptop at least for at hotel. Sweats etc for lounging around. And candy :) not sure if they can keep cells. Sure would be nice.

I have heard and was told by a couple people that once at BUDS Prep after PIR, they can have their cell phones and laptop if they choose.  I will be taking his down with me for him to have.  Worse case, i'll be lugging it back home!  :o)  Not sure what else they can have as far as personal items like sweats, etc.  Good question!!!  If you find out, let me know!!

I was thinking the sweats more for lounging in the hotel room after the long shower. Maybe his own boxers etc to get him out of his issued clothing at least for a little bit. Someone mentioned on here taking them shopping for good running shoes for buds prep. Thats a good idea since my RS's running shoes came home in the "box"  he was dreading running in boots!  :(    It would be great if they could have their cells and lap top- would be like he was just in his room all day.

Hi ladies...It is so awesome to see all of us encouraging each other.  I feel like if our boys are like their mothers and girlfriends, they will learn to work together and encourage each other.  I was thinking the same thing and actually wrote it in my son's letter, that the friends he will be making now, through Buds prep will be life - long bonds.  I know the next couple of years, I will spend praying a lot!  Not that I don't now, but they will need our encouragement and prayers.

I am taking my SRs cell phone, laptop, some of his running shoes, and whatever else he says to bring.  We are driving though, so that makes it easier to haul it all back.

As far as the letters, remember that there was a holiday this Monday, so that means no mail went out, so if you got one last week, it will be at least a day later, and who knows...maybe 2.  Hopefully, the calls will come soon.  I think by helping each other out, it helps us out as individuals as well.  That's what our SRs will be learning as well.

And as far as the tears, it just means we all love our kids.  No need to apologize for that!  Hang in there ladies.  I sure hope I get to meet you all at PIR, although, I don't think we will make it in time for meet and greet as we are driving.

Take care ladies....keep thinking positive about those letters and phone calls.  Each day is one day closer to seeing them... and one less day for them til they see us!

Absolutely!  I agree with everything you said!  :o)  You mentioned Meet & Greet?!  If it's on here somewhere, i didn't see it.  Can you give me more information as to when and where this will be?!  I'm really hoping for some liberty time on Saturday!!  If so, definitely will need to bring him some comfy clothes and running shoes, etc.  Does anyone know how far away from base they can go?!  I doubt we'll go too far, but just need to be certain.  I look forward to meeting you and everyone at PIR!  So proud of our 800 division guys!!  :o)
They can only go 50 miles.  We live 90 miles away - so we can't bring our SR home.  But we have recent graduate friends, in same program, who had the weekend off after PIR.  Days - as they have to be back at night.  So we plan on getting a room and staying the weekend.  I have it all planned already - I am so excited :)

Perfect!  I heard they will more than likely have from 8am - 8pm liberty, but if late they lose for the following day.  We won't be taking any chances!  :o)  Okay, 50 miles, got it and thanks!!

Ok...since I am a technotard (I love that term!) I think if you go to the calendar on the right of the page and go to October and hit 13, it should bring up the meetngreet at the Ramada Inn on Oct. 13 for the PIR group of 10/14.  If not, let me know and we can ask on the main discussion for PIR 10/14.  Sorry.... You can also view all upcoming events and keep going until you get to Oct. 13.  Hope it helps.

All I know for sure is Mortons is 15.24 miles from the base and that's where my boy is eating dinner friday evening!  Great idea about the running shoes, boxers and sweats!  If my SR tells me anything else that will make things a little nicer for them.......saw there is a bowling alley on the base---no chance anyone would like to make a corny family time all together bowling?  Just a silly thought I know...
