Annette, it's hard to say what would be best. I'm pretty sure she'll leave on the saturday, as only the ones staying in Great Lakes for A school will get all 3 days Liberty, no over nights though.
We didn't know when our son was leaving until 2 weeks before Graduation and then went ahead and booked our flights. Some of my sons friends didn't leave the airport until 8pm.
I'd maybe wait until closer to PIR before you book the flights. It's hard to judge, so good luck.
mattsmom - so what would you suggest? should be book the flight for return, sat night, sun or even mon?? Just want to be able to squeeze in all the possible time.
Thanks
Hi Annette, Welcome :)
My son just graduated friday and he left for Pensacola on saturday. We got to spend time with him until 8pm on friday, although we dropped him off closer to 7,as we didn't want him to be late. He left for the airport early saturday morning, so we went earlier to spend a few hours with him before he flew out, it was only an hour before our flight,so it was perfect.
Just a heads up too, if you don't plan on renting a car, DO NOT use a taxi from the airport.Call ahead and get one from near your hotel, we had to pay $99, our credit card had been blocked due to some fraud, so we found out the hard way. On our return we paid $46, big difference !!!
Good luck to your daughter, the weeks will fly by, so hang in there :)
@MomKaren...thank you so much for your reply, my daughter will not be a grad and go, she is leaving for Pensecola...I just wanted to get some kind of idea because "officially" it states they leave sometime sat, but I thought it was more like they had liberty with us sat & possibly sunday..
Thank you
Hello Annette, welcome to N4M! It depends on where your recruit will go for A School. If it's in Great Lakes, you will have a few minutes with your daughter immediately after graduation Friday, then she would report back to her ship to pack and move across the street like my son did. He was out by 3:30, and we had him until about 8 pm, then all day Saturday and Sunday (no night liberty). Some sailors were "grad and go," meaning they only had Friday liberty. There is another website called "navy for dads" that has more detailed info. http://www.navydads.com/forum/topics/navy-boot-camp-faqs
best of luck to your daughter!
Hi all, My daughter has her PIR Dec 2, I am trying to get an idea of the Liberty time they get after... I know they get Friday, but is it just up in the air for Sat and Sun or will they most likely get sat & sun? Any help will be greatly appreciated...
Congrats to all your Sailors!
