He is a delayed entry recruit so I have had time to get used to the idea. He singes on to be a corpsmen (medic right). If recruits leave together on the 4th do they grad together?
Hope to meet other moms!

Thanks for the info about Thanksgiving. Of course I had to go ask him what he thought and he said since graduation would only be a few weeks away he didn't. Think it would be a good idea (he knows were there isn't a lot of extra money). I told him what you said about. Visiting with a host family but he issss sooo shy I knew he would say no.
This is going to be a huge social change for him. We have talked about it but of course I'm a mom and I worry!!!
So what is ur sailors story? If u don't mind me asking..

Only 10 more days till my recruit leaves

momol5;

The senoir recruits are also adopted by the local VFW's, churches, etc.  and taken to different locations for a real turkey dinner with all the trimmings.  My son went to VFW in Chicago, and was able to use the computers, play video games, watch tv, and just relax.  He said there was a whole bus load of recruits at the VFW where he went.  My son left on October 8, 2009 and graduated on December 5, 2009 with Kendra's son Drew, in fact the boys were in the same division.

Welcome to our Group!!

Gen

momol5 - Gen's right, *and* the best part is that they provide some sort of phone bank (or cell phones) so that the sailors can call home and talk to family even if they can't be there.  And trust me, a nice relaxed phone call off base will be very welcome by this point - becase while on base, the phone calls will be short, rushed, and way too far between =)

Prayers are good!  thanks!

We had the last meeting with our son's recruiter on Thursday.  Since he has to come down and do his final u/a anyway, we have decided to have him bring him down to the hotel as well.  We are going to go to the swearing in on Tuesday though.  I think this last week has been the worst, but thinking of what his future holds makes it all worth it.  Hang in there all, only 6 days to go.

Dawn, keep checking in.  Even if you don't have time to post, it helps just to read other posts of encouragement, everyone is here for the same reason which helps so much.

Hang in there ladies, it does get easier.  Just keep talking to other moms who're going through it (or have gone through it)!  We're in this together =)

My son leaves on the 4th, too.  Actually, he goes to Shreveport on the 3rd, they put him up in a hotel and then early on the 4th he goes to MEPS, etc.  He is going to study to be a sonar technician.  A friend of his went in a few weeks ago and is graduating this Friday, the 30th!  He has been able to tell my son what to expect and not to be so freaked out.  Good luck!  I live in Nacogdoches, Texas (far East Texas, close to the Louisiana border).  Where do you live?  Good luck to  your son!

Hey I'm a dawn too!! With corpsmen son..I can't believe were to the last week until they leave. It seemed so long ago when he signed up!!!!! Now it is upon us.
My other son is not suppose to leave until feb. But is really trying to get his date moved up.
We will have to send prayers for one another :)

wow - two joining up within a 6 month period - you're going to become an expert in NavyMom overnight!!

Final pictures when he still has hair?

My son actually let me give him a buz cut myself the day before he left, it was cool - made me feel like I was a part of it.  I also got to save a lock of his hair (which he said was creepy, but he still let me do it).

I didn't think about that...getting a pic while they still have hair, LOL

When my boys were young they always got buzz cuts (called a #2 by the barber).

I will do some pics on Sunday, family dinner out .... last one for a long time, since his older brother will be leaving for boot camp in the next few months and then off to A school for 2years!

Starting to feel sad..proud mom but sad... will miss him terribly!
