While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Great Lakes, a school
My son will be graduating 10/21. ( I think). We are staying at the Ramada Wakeegan Gurnee. Should I get him a room? Or should I upgrade to a suite so there is room for him? Should I get him a room?

He will have to be back on base in the evening. If you upgrade to a suite and he wishes to nap during the day he'll have a quiet room to do so.

Thanks for the info. I was reading on someones post their son went back to the hotel with them for the weekend because he was going to A school at Great Lakes

My son is also graduating 10/21. He stays at GL for A school, too. From all that I have seen, he still needs to be back on base by 2100 (9pm) each night. I am not sure about when he gets to leave, because the info seems to say that they move over to new quarters for A school, before liberty. Is that true?

Adam's Mom: I recall reading that liberty for those attending GL A School changed back in, I believe, April. They used to be allowed overnight liberty, but no longer. We, too, are staying at the Ramada. I didn't think to look at suites, but will do so now to see if there is a big price difference. We'll have a five-year-old along, so I was thinking that if my son naps or wants to spend time online, the rest of us can go down to the pool, as I don't think the little one will be content to sit in a hotel room for very long.
SheilaD: I read that for those attending GL A School, the parents should allow 3-4 hours after PIR for them to move over to their A School. I would hope it doesn't take that long! There is info in one of the discussions about things to do/eat on base while waiting or you can leave base and come back to pick him up. In the 10/21 discussion, a N4M veteran also said there is a slight chance that they won't move over to A School until after the weekend. I really hope that doesn't happen to my son, as I am hoping to be able to leave his cell phone, etc. with him, and it's my understanding they can't have their personal belongings until after they move to A School.

Thanks, B'smom - that's what I had heard , too. i hope they move over right after PIR, then we don't have to worry about doing that on Sunday.

I didn't even get a letter this week :-( He sent one to his brother with instructions to change his picture on Facebook ASAP--not sure what that's about, but I might ask on the main PIR group, and he sent a short "Happy Birthday" note to his little sister, which was nice, but I'm still pouting about not getting my own letter. One other suggestion if you haven't thought of it yet is to bring clothes for your son to lounge in in the hotel room and, of course, the cell phone charger! I'm worried I won't get any time with my son once he gets a hold of the cell phone. LOL

My son is also staying on at Great Lakes for A school and said that he wouldn't check in until Sunday night. Everything I've read says after PIR, but that is not what he's been told at this point.

I am going to be so frustrated if my son does not check in at A School until Sunday night. We're driving, so I'll stay as late as I reasonably can to provide him with his things, but I may have to ship his things to him from GL. I'll have to ask my son about it in the next letter, but it will probably be a week from Wednesday before I get my answer in a letter. This lack of communication is really starting to wear on me... I wish they could call more often.

I hear ya B'smom. We are driving from NJ. When my daughters boyfriend graduated 4 years ago, they had Liberty for the entire weekend. I was very disappointed to learn that my son will head for A school in Texas on Saturday. I'm hoping he will have some time to come home after A school. This site is such a great method of support. Essentially, we're all in the "same boat", so to speak. :-)
