I took my son to the recruiters too - and the recruiter took him (and a carful of others) to MEPs for the swearing-in. I wish I could have gone, but there will be PLENTY of other times for you to be there and celebrate - starting with PIR (Boot Camp graduation)!
Good luck ladies (and hugs for your sailors!)
Thanks and will give lots of hugs if he'll let me!
My son doesn't want us at the swearing in so we'll also be doing our hugs at the recruiters too. We don't even know when the swearing in will be.
We are having a great weekend and I hope you are too!

Made me cry but really does put it into perspective. I'll have to check out youtube.
Thanks!

I made such a big deal about always asking if my son was eating ok (I don't know what I was thinking, that they'd be served prison gruel?) - that every letter he sent mostly just described the food. I just got my first email from the sub - and sure enough, he told me they served chicken cordon bleu on the sub just like at boot camp!
The first phone call will be so incredibly short and sweet that you'll be lucky if you even remember what he says after he hangs up, but you will feel better like the first test has passed.
I'm so sorry to hear about that other mother, mothers shouldn't bury their sons.
Just dropped off Jason at the recruiters earlier today...of course he forgot his social sec card! So another trip to run it to the recruiter so he can drive up at 6am and hand it in :) LOL We will go at 9am for swearing in ...
I only have cried about 3x today...so not to bad, i think tomorrow when I have to say goodbye for a while it will hit harder.
Prayers and hugs to all us moms missing our sons already xoxo

My son will leave MEPS tomorrow, should by on the plain to Chicago around 2:30 (thats what he thought they told him his flight was). He is so quiet and a bit shy so I am really proud of him for taking such a huge step in life!
How was bootcamp? He has been training physically for about 8months (his brother is a persone trainer) and got his in shape for running. He is also going into the Navy, delayed deployment to be a special ops rescue swimmer.
I will post when I know his division and stuff.. his recruiter said he might be able to tell me when he calls but we will see.

Oh, it's ok really! I'm just describing how he is but that's OK with me. I would like to be able to check in with him for another day but that was up to him and I respect that.
He does have a phone card and everything he needs. I don't want to like match him up with other recruits or anything. He needs to make his own way without my influence so please don't mention him to your recruits. Thanks! He would be so mad at me if he though I was interfering with anything and I don't want to either. Dawn in MD
I'm still waiting too and same here! Praying :-D

Ohhhh sadness (but proud) LOL if that makes sence? I said goodbye to my son this afternoon at MEPS. I miss him so much and now just sitting on pins and needles awaiting that phone call that he made it there ok!
Oh and my husband moved out (we have had our problems but I thought we were going to work on it) after almost 23 years of marriage and 5 children!~ I guess I knew it was coming but NOT TODAY!
:(
