Our daughter left on September 13th and other than the initial welcome letter from the Recruit Training Command and her box of belongings we haven't heard from her yet. We have mailed several letters to her already hoping she will have something to look forward to from home as often as possible. This mom is however getting anxious to hear from her. We are so excited to know she will have PIR on November 10th and can't wait to see her. Has anyone else's loved ones have the same PIR date?

Not worry hon, the not hearing from her and her not getting your letters is all part of the process.  The first two weeks they recieve no mail nor are ANY calls made.  You don't want to get a call this early because that usually means something is wrong, like she got sick and is in medical.  Wha tthey do in the first two weeks is make the recruits learn to be a team and the easiest way is to take out outside influence.  I call that first two weeks "falling off the grid".  PLEASE DO NOT stop sending the letters.  I sent one each day.  When the two weeks is up and if her division does well, they recieve their first mail drop and if you had sent cards each day, she will recieve LOTS.  They don't have much time to read but those cards will make the difference through the whole process.  In my daugthers 8 weeks of Basic, her division got 2 phone calls, 8 minutes each and they get to write home only on Sunday's and since I live in Illinois 50 miles from the Base I was the first mom out here telling the other mom's "letters coming home any day!".  Stay strong and feel free to ask ANY questions to this Alumni Group.  When they are recruits is the ONLY time there is no communication; I talk to my daugther every day now.
Thanks Diana, it does mean so much to hear from someone who has already been through boot camp with a loved one. Today makes week 3 and still no word and I do believe no news is good news. Megan has always gone away for a week or so during our summers for camps and us not hearing from her is somewhat normal but we have never gone this long not hearing her amazing voice.I know that she is doing what she wants and if it makes her happy then I am also happy for her. It amazes me how our children teach us to be strong and patient and not so much the other way around. Thank you again for the words of wisdom and advice.
