Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

SHIP 04, DIV 820 and DIV 821 Brother divisions....
This discussion is for those who have an SR in Ship 04, DIV 820 and 821, PIR 10/14/11. These are brother divisions and will be spending a lot of time together from what I understand. Remember OPSEC rules and for security purposes...no pictures of your SR or names of SR. God bless you all!

I have heard the wifi signal is very weak in the barracks. There are mobile hot spots you can get that allow internet access for anywhere from 2-8 devices at a time or some phones also act as mobile hot spots. I have been researching this (as my recent distraction from reality :) ) and most require you to also have some sort of agreement with a cell phone company ($30-80 depending on plan etc).
I have a tablet through Sprint (smaller than ipad) that has 3G access already and can be a hot spot but have to pay additional $29/month... but also limits amount of data they access so if they share and go over the bill goes sky high.
Another note- my SR asked for his PS3- but is there a TV they have access to? I am expecting that request to be in the next letter- please bring my tv... LOL.

and oh gosh yes that is great about your son's ear and knee- I would think as well that you would have heard if he was still very sick. I asked my son when he called last week but he hadnt heard of anyone being extremely ill anymore but he is 821 and I am guessing your son ins 820 (??)

Hi navmom, and all, yes, he's in 821 and so that makes it even more sure he was able to do his PST. He was told if it burst (since he didn't go to medical for awhile, that's likely) he'd have to wait a cpl weeks to get in water potion of pst. I didn't get my usual thursday letter, so I'm still in the dark but pretty sure I'd know by now, too. So hopefully I'll be seein you all VERY SOON!!

Ok so good- I had asked if he knew anyone that burst an eardrum and couldnt swim (because he also had been sick in the most recent letter at that time) and he said "not in 821- maybe 820"... so that is hopefully a good thing- and this was one week ago when he called to ask about the graduation guest list. :) Stay positive!

I am so glad you haven't heard anymore regarding your son's eardrum and knee. I would agree, no news is good news. We will keep praying that he will be PIRing next week with the rest of them.
I don't know that much about wi-fi either. I talked to a veteran mom and she said her son had an xbox there, but then when it was time to go to San Diego, he had to pay to ship it home. She said that the big items can be expensive to ship home or they have to give them away or whatever. As far as tvs not sure about that one. I can try to ask her.

At the Ramada Thurs evening and we juts made plans to meet up again Friday evening after the sailors are back on base. Maybe the Ramada again? I am not familiar with other places so what ever works... :) We all need some relaxing fun time. :)

They have to provide their own tv unless someone else has left theirs behind. Mine had an xbox but used a friends tv. Remember they will need to ship the stuff they cannot carry on the plane to SD and that can get expensive so some get second hand items that they can sell to a new class coming in or donate so they won't have to pay to ship it. They are too busy in BUDS, they can't have that stuff there.
