For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

There is not a lot about Marlinspike. Here is what I have:

Marlinespike
Basic Seamanship Phase
"I wish to have no connection with any ship that does not sail fast; for I intend to go in harm's way." -- John Paul Jones
One of the most physically challenging and motivating events in your training calendar is Basic Seamanship. You will start with the basics of line handling and shipboard watch standing. Don't relax, your training will move quickly. By the end of the third day you will be tested on getting the USS MARLINESPIKE (simulated training ship) underway and back to port safely as a team. Successful completion of this vigorous training will put you one step closer to the final hurdle "Battle Stations."

According to this from the Navydep.com website, the Marlin Spike happens week 3, day 5. For Div 367, that would be this coming Thursday. Every division in our group should be a within a couple of days of each other, so this week should be safe.
3-1 Day
- Hair cuts again. Males get shaven (Navy Style), and females whose hair falls below the bottom edge of the collar get another haircut. You pay for it, so it's you. I'd say females cut it short before coming!

3-2 Day
- Classifications - Ratings if you are Nuke or AECF or do not have a specific rating only. You will list the order of what you rating you want etc. You should find out the following week what the Navy decideds to give you. (Note: this is only for people in Nuke, AECF, or do not have a rating when coming in).

3-3 Day
- Study Time
- Weapons computer based training. You complete the course and print out the certificate. You must score 100%.

3-4 Day
- Seamanship Basic Skills class

3-5 Day
- Marlinspike. You get to practice the seamanship skills learned the day before. Important to know all roles because they will come in handy for Battle Stations.

Thank you! I knew I had read it somewhere but wouldn't be able to find it again! I wish I could figure out my SR's week and day! But you're right... div 372 is probably within a couple days of that. Thanks!

Mom Ant - if you receive a phone call - ask. My daughter knew and told me when she called. For her division every Thursday is their week start date. You can also ask in letters for them to let you know. I felt soooo much better knowing that I could refer to my list of what is supposed to happen. Made me feel more in control or certainly less out of control and out of touch.

I got a call last Saturday and didn't think to ask. My SR was having such a rough time. :( I've asked in several of my letters... now if I'd just get one in return! At least I know now, what's going on, within a few days. Thanks for the helpful info! :) Does Monday being a holiday change the week's start day? Do you know?
