While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Hi. My son also arrived at boot camp in Great Lakes on Oct 6 and he is going to school in Pensacola afterwards. Still waiting for the box and 1st letter too.

Navymomx2...I know what you mean, just remember "no news is good news" especially while at RTC. My daughter is my youngest & the 2nd to go through bc. I keep looking for her everywhere. I knew empty nesting was real, but it is a hard thing to deal with. I keep my phone with me EVERYWHERE I go & my husband has even tried to take it out of my hand after I fell asleep! I know from experience that I won't get a call this soon, but I can always hope.

I know what you mean. I've always turned my cell off at night while sleeping because my kids were safe and sound in their beds at home. But now that my son is gone at BC, I leave it on at night, just in case.

My daughter's school is in Pensacola also. AS. She wants to build it into a career. Loves mechanic work. I keep praying she is doing well.

Sounds like our sons will be together. My son left for BC Oct 6th and is then also going to Pensacola for A school.

WOW! What a long week.... My daughter was supposed to leave for MEPS (San Diego) on wed then fly out to boot camp on thursday the 6th. Yeah, right....NOT. Last sunday evening while hanging out at home, we were watching a movie and it was about 8:30 when the recruiter called and told my daughter that MEPS just called and was asking why she wasn't checked into the hotel, she was on the manifest to be checked in on Sunday, finish processing on monday and fly out first thing at 6:30 am tuesday morning. WHhhhhhhhaaaattttt? Yup, someone didn't pass the "revised" info down the line... So, the recruiter came over about 9:30 pm and confirmed she had to be ready to leave with him at 4 am, 6.5 hours later... It was crazy, surely not the way we counted on the last few hours or evening to be... I had a house full of people by 10:30 and here all the way till she left at 4:30. We finally got about 2 hours sleep, got up, got ready and went down to MEPS, our intention was to hang out with her for just a couple of hours when she was done and also give her the last of the couple of things I needed to pick up for her. We got very fortunate that we made the swearing in and just stayed with her at MEPS. When she was done we took her to get some food and back to the hotel. She was so tired that we left her at the hotel at 6 and she had called us by 7:30 that she was going to bed.
It was insane, I couldn't believe it was happening so fast, I wanted those last couple of days. We talked to her all day on tuesday during her travels and then about 5 pm Chicago time she boarded the bus at the airport to head to boot camp. We got the "I'm here, call you in about 3 weeks" call 3 hours later. The "BOX" came friday afternoon, so it doesn't take long to receive. I just quickly opened the box and removed the contents and put everything away, it's hard enough that I didn't want to dwell on that too much. Now, today, finally I will clean her room and try to make sense of everything. This also the first day that I will be by myself ALL day. My husband had taken last week off and we had to return to work today, so, I"m looking at a long day... At least I know my house will be sparkly clean because I will want to stay busy! lol.
I've already written 2 letters and keep looking at my phone, you know, just in case! lol...
Well, ladies, let the games begin, the waiting time is her.... Good Luck to everyone... I hope you all are having a easier time with this than me and my family are....

((((HUGS)))....Annette, it is hard when our babies leave. My daughter is my youngest & I am empty nesting really bad. She is also a daddy's girl & he is taking it pretty hard. I know exactly how you feel & I have gone through this whole emotional roller coaster once already when my sone went to bc last year so If you have any questions feel free to ask & if I don't know the answer I will find someone who does.

While my daughter's trip to boot camp wasn't as messed-up as yours, it did take forever. We went to MEPS to watch our daughter take her oath, sat with her while her travel orders were processed. She was supposed to leave for the airport at 11AM -- we took off around 10:30AM. To make a long story short, we received a call from her at 9:30PM MDT saying she was finally in Chicago, followed by the "I"m here call" at 1:00AM MDT. Considering that her day began at 5:00AM, it certainly made for a very long day. Haven't rec'd the box but expect it any day. Not too sure how well I will handle that. Haven't started to clean her room, probably should. Hubby says it might take me 8 weeks to get it done! I've written 4 letters, purchased about a dozen cards, and literally sprint to the phone, just in case! I've started a "goodie" box list although I was instructed not to send it while she was still in bootcamp because it would just get opened, her treats eaten in front of her, and she would be made fun of. Well, we can't have that. I'm a "cleaner" too! Have cleaned/straightened the pantry, "paper" closet - where we stash the foil, paper plates, plastic bags, cookbooks etc, and the linen closet. Anything and everything to keep busy. Ws basically worthless at work yesterday. Doing better today.

Just a word to the wise from another 10/6/2011 mom - don't put off cleaning the bedroom too long because it becomes harder the longer you wait. I couldn't walk in there the first few days because it felt like he died. It was really really hard but then I committed to the idea gathered my cleaning supplies and jumped right in. I turned on the TV to keep me company and by the end of the day I was feeling better. It took me two whole days to get the bugger cleaned but it's done. Now I go in there to watch movies and just chill - I don't want to turn the area into some kind of memorial. I want to keep the area alive.... does that make sense?
