Moms are you ready to start Christmas shopping????

Our adoption for October is the USS Ingraham.  There are 201 sailors serving aboard this frigate -

191 males and 10 females (all officers).  As we all know it is very difficult to be away from your family during the holidays so after speaking with our contact we have decided to brighten up these sailors holidays by helping them celebrate Christmas.

We can send Christmas decorations such as small trees, battery powered lights and wall decorations.

I would like to see each of them receive a small stocking (6")  filled with candy or small items and a candy cane for Christmas morning in addition to our other packages.  What do you ladies think?

They requested very few things but could use sunscreen and lip balm since the weather is hot where they are deployed.  Microwavable meals would be a big hit with the crew also.  Most of them are into games, movies and sports and could use some new items to pass around.

The Captain is onboard with anything that will boost the morale on her ship and they are grateful for the support from home and will appreciate anything we do for them.  They enjoy seeing the smiles on the faces of the sailors when they receive mail and care packages from home.

Since this is a small group could we get enough of the small Priority boxes filled so that every sailor onboard would have a box to open for Christmas plus a pillowcase and a Christmas card?

Okay moms what fabulous ideas do you have to help the USS Ingraham celebrate Christmas this year?

We have several moms sending blank Christmas cards for the sailors to send to their families and several that will be sending Christmas decorations.

The shipping dates will be October 21 - 26 and the address is posted in MAS We Ship Love and mark the boxes "Christmas" or we could write "Don't Open Until Christmas".

The large Priority box (gameboard box shape) will hold 10 of the small Priority boxes but it is tight.  You could pack fewer small ones and add some other size boxes or pillowcases in with them.  Evi you were not able to get the $2.00 discount for the postage on that size box even though you were mailing to APO/FPO?

Thanks Pat!  I will add your other 10 to our count.

Today is our first day of shippping for the USS Ingraham.  Please let me know when you ship your packages and the number so that I can give a final count to our POC.  Thanks to We Stitch Love for providing pillowcases for each of the sailors and Susan for the Christmas stories.  They are going to have a great time celebrating Christmas this year.

Matt's Mom I shipped the 200+ stockings last Monday and will be shipping my small boxes this Monday.

I finally got things packed and will go ship tomarrow I just have to fill out the Slips and I ran out of packing tape but we have a post office open on Sundays to take to and I will be shipped on Monday.  I know that's a little late I'm sorry it has been a busy week at work and I've had to work late a bunch so unable to finish up shopping and wrapping until this morning.  I hope that is fine.  The final count is 16.  I stuffed them so full only able to get 7 in each big box and in the other box with christmas cards I sent the other 2 hope that is ok. chowchow we are planning on shipping until the 26th and even after that if we have to.  We try to work within a window of dates but no problem if someone ships early or late.  We are having a packing party in Texas on the 26th so mine will not go out until the 27th.  Thanks for helping out!
Oh Matt's mom thanks for the update I've been at church and working in the yard and didn't get to it until now so waiting until the 26th or 27th sounds very helpful to me.  I keep warning you all I'm a newbe.  Thanks for keeping me on task.  This actually helped me out it has been a busy weekend it still haven't got the packing tape.  Plus is that ok that I'm sending 2 of the wrapped VHS boxes in with the blank christmas cards that way I will only have to send 3 packages.  I will mark open early on the box with the blank cards, and 2 gift boxes with a note explaining not to open the gifts untl christmas, but please pass out the blank christmas cards.  Plus I was just going to include some good snack food for all of the extra work just for the POC.  Does it sound like I'm on track?
Yes ma'am that is perfect.  Pack your boxes however you need or want to.  Snack food is always appreciated.

Thanks for letting me know Pam!

I checked at my Post Office today about shipping cost for the gameboard size box and the lady said that when mailing Priority the only options are small, medium and large and as long as it was going to FPO/APO she was giving the discount.  It is strange how different Post Offices charge different prices.  You would think they would all be the same but we know first hand that is not how it works.

I was not able to get the $2 discount and my Postmaster is WONDERFUL so if she thought I could get it she would have given it to me - maybe they just don't make the special apo/fpo boxes in that size although she did tell me I would get the discount on the regular sized large box even if it wasn't the apo/fpo marked box - who knows?  I'm shipping out my 8 Monday along with 8 christmas signs/wall hangings and 3 little sets of battery operated lights.

Thanks Evi!  I am glad that you are sending the battery operated lights.  I have trees and decorations but haven't been able to find the lights at any of the stores around here.

Matt's Mom, I was able to get 4 more of the small boxes in , so that will bring my count up to 24 that I will ship tomorrow.  Just wanted to update you on my count.
Awesome Pam!  I will change your count.
