hello everyone my question is that my boyfriend will be retiring from the navy in a year he will have severied 20 years. any clue if for his last year will they send him close to home right now he is in japan till january.. any advice i would love

Not unless there's a base near his home and he gets orders there. They will do a final packout and pay for travel when he retires. My husband ended up in SD from Japan when he retired. Sometimes they extend them to fill a two year billet, well, they used to. Angie would know what's common these days.
thankbeen hearing so many different story's. i cant beleive its almost jan and still no word on his new assistment and where.i will be happy with any thing in the usa
What paygrade is your boyfriend? PO1 or CPO?
The only thing the USN will do when they retire someone and they are stationed oversea's is make sure they are back on US soil NLT 30 days prior to their last day in the USN.
If he only has a year left in the USN...they will just keep him where he is at due to the cost of moving him.
well its actually july of 2013 he will retire he is do to leave japan in january. he was stationied there for ayear as for pay im not clear on that he is a chief petty officier if that helps
Yep that helps...Chief's can stay in until 24 years...this is where it will get tricky as he will have to sign up for orders (Jan 12-Jul13 = 17 months)...they must have a certain amount of time at a command...so if he takes orders to a command state side...he will have to stay in the USN longer...if he is to leave Japan in Jan 12...he should know where he is going next as we pick orders 9-12 months before we are to transfeer.
Also the USN can keep him longer...seen it done many times.
Has he put in his retirement paper work yet? If he did than he will stay where he is at until time to reitre.
I am a Chief also....please feel free to give my info to your boyfriend if he needs any assistance.
Does that help?
