Hello all,

Hang in there if you're waitin' for that 1st letter! It made me so happy I'm about to bust! Our SR sounds really good! Said he misses us a lot more than he thought he would. :)  He was made the yeoman of his division so we're proud of that although he didn't really tell us what all his duties are for that. He said he stays strong by remembering he will see us soon for PIR. I hope my husband will feel as happy as I do cause he's been having a very rough time without his buddy! There is a light at the end of the tunnel so hang on if your SR just left or you haven't gotten the 1st letter.

Take care!

You will so amazed at how much your SR has changed at PIR-it is amazing-but PIR is one of the most amazing things I have ever seen-bring the tissues (some for Hubby too) because I assure you if you make it through without tears you two are very strong folks

Oh no, we are definitely criers! My husband is big, built like a big bear, but he's a marshmellow inside. He lost his Dad almost 2 years ago, his only brother passed away 23 years ago, & he almost cries more than I do cause his son is "gone." I think our SR is already changing-he had the messiest printing in the world & his letter was printed very neatly-lol! So anyway, I'll prolly bring a whole box of Kleenex. :)

And they actually have to take turns ironing and learning to fold their clothes -classes on folding closes that is too funny

Also making their beds-now I am not saying he will do it when he comes on leave-my grandson trashed his bedroom-I guess because after boot camp then A-school he needed a break from being neat

Congratulations on your first letter!!  I remember that day like it was yesterday!!  Each new letter or letters that came on Thursday carried me through to the next week!!  I would read them over and over....once the letters started coming then the weeks went by soo much faster!!  My son had PIR on Oct 28, can't believe it is over, it is such a rollercoaster of an experience and the end result is such an amazing experience!!  Looks like your letter day will be Wednesday, it will be your new favorite day of the week!!  : -)

Received our first letters today, but honestly, it was a little depressing. I was excited to finally receive a letter, but after reading it I was a little sad. I hope the letters to follow are more encouraging. I hope and pray he calls this Sunday.

The letters should get better.  I went through this recently with my son's friend, who had gone in earlier.  The first couple of letters were depressing but by the time he got to week 4 he was sounding much more positive.

no letter and my son left November 1st....emotions build everyday...just so much imagining how he is....

You will start seeing a change in their attitude about the middle of boot camp.  Once they learn the team concept and start helping and looking out for each other-their whole attitude changes.  When they start earning their flags for their various requirements and are passing their inspections-everything starts to turn around.  Our grandson never wrote but a couple of letters his entire boot camp. But as soon as we received his address I wrote to him daily.  They really look forward to the letters from home.  Once they start earing their calls or get them as rewards for excelling in different areas they are an entirely different SR-That call you get after Battle Stations is a very emotional one.  My SR said he cried like a baby when he got his Navy cap to replace his Recruit cap.  It is a different world for them-something they have never been exposed to before-it is a shock to their system-but somehow about 6-7 weeks into boot camp they start to jell as a unit and everything usually gets much better and they can see the light at the end of the tunnel.  My grandson had never been away from home, never flown and never had anyone telling him what to do 24-7.  But it amazed me how well he did and how strong he was.  Believe me they are in good hands and are well taken care of.  Telling you not to worry is a waste of breath. so I wont.  But the best thing I can tell you is NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS. Be patient and try to remember they are SR now on their way to a new way of life and a whole new way of thinking.

Our son left on Nov. 1st also and we haven't gotten a letter yet either.  I can't wait to hear from him.  He was so excited when he left and I know he is fine but I miss him terribly and can't wait to hear from him.
