My son is a little older going in....he left 11/15. He's 22 with some college under his belt. Anyway...I haven't gotten the "I'm here" call. Any ideas why - other than he called a girlfriend instead? Also - anyone else from Newnan GA out there?

You usually get the call within a short period of time after they arrive at GL-but there are not enough phones for all of them to call at one time and many times all of the phones are not working-our call was on 15-20 seconds long and we didnt get another call for about 3 weeks. They are only a short period of time to get the calls in and if they cant get it done they have to wait-my grandson had a hard time getting his calling card to work and he didnt take his cell phone since he knew they would take them up anyway-I have learned NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS-this became our motto for weeks. You should receive a box with his clothes and anything they wont let him keep shortly-also a form letter will come soon with his anticipated PIR date and his mailing address.
I too have an older son, who also did not call. He is 25 and went away to both boarding (at 16) and to college, and he told me he wouldn't call. They only get one call, so I guess he used it on his girlfriend! There's really no time to communicate anything other than "I'm here" and if his plane had crashed I would have heard about it!
I bet you'll get a call in a few weeks...
Don't worry, your son is doing exactly what he needs to! Be well,
Leslie
Yep he is safe and being well cared for.
My son left on the same date. He called at 12:55a.m.Tuesday morning. I recieved my "box" yesterday. Now just waiting on the form letter so I can write.
My 21 year old son left on 11/15 also and I did not receive the call either, to make matters worse I also haven't got the "box" or the form letter with PIR date and mailing address. Sorry, not from GA from CA. :(
