Hi Everyone,

New here, but son Austin is in Ship 02, Div 905 too!!  Very glad to find this group!

We've received some conflicting info and hope someone out there knows a lot more than us!

So what will happen on 12/17?  Do they get shipped off the next day or do they get to stay for a few days.  Trying to arrange for days of travel and sure need to know what their schedule is to be 12/17 forward.

Please post when you can.

Thanks !!!!   Suzy

Hi Suzy - Welcome to the group!!  A veteran mom will probably answer better shortly but its my understanding that all the SR's have to report to A-School and then request leave.  Is your SR staying at GL or going somewhere else for A-School. The SR's will mostly leave on Saturday unless its a flight availability issue, then they will leave on Sunday.  It has been recommended that you plan to leave Sunday or Monday so that you can stay with your SR until they leave.  I think you can go all the way to the gate with your SR until they leave!!  Again, welcome to the group!! Hope to see you on the 16th!!

My son is heading to Mississippi for A-School unless something changes.  He was told over and over he would go straight to A-School right after PIR.  And that he would not be coming home over the holidays.

If someone knows something different than that, please share.

Just wasn't sure if they left the very next day or had a day or so before leaving for A-School.

Thanks, SUZY

Those staying at GL "depart" RTC on Friday to move over and check in. They will have a very short time with you directly after PIR and then have to go. This could take 3-5 hours. Make sure they have a working phone card still so they can call you to come get them over there. I do not know what liberty will be like as each command has different holiday stand down policies.

Those flying out to other schools generally as a rule it is like what New2Navy said as far as liberty goes. Since some of RTC personnel will go on Stand down (there will still be recruit TG's thre and so life goes on)...I don't know if extra liberty days will happen for Saturday departures. Your Sailor will be the best source for final info.

My sons liberty changed TWO days before PIR! It was a national holiday weekend, he graduated on a Thursday, was supposed to leave Friday and ended up leaving Sunday...the "holiday" was on Monday. I had booked through until Sunday just in case...figured if it didn't happen I would sight see for a day!

As far as holiday leave....that has to be applied for...and granted...at their next command (A school). It isn't guaranteed. Your recruits will only have five days of earned leave (2.5 per month of active duty). They can borrow ahead..."go in the hole"...it is frowned upon...but again it depends on the school etc. They have to "pay it back" but since no leave is granted in A school EXCEPT for the hoiliday stand downs...they can bulid it up during A school. Your Sailor will have to decide what they want to do.

I know Betsy's son graduated this time last year...I am hoping she can shed some more details on the subject! She is a little busy right now.

My son is going to Mississippi for A School too.  It would be nice if they get off for Christmas.

MY SR was told he will go straight to A school the day after PIR. I was also told the same thing when I called to inquire.  I was told that they have to attend Indoctrination @ their A school before they can take leave.  They will have accrued 5 days (2.5 days/mo) upon completion of boot camp.  A school will approve/deny requests for leave.  Since it will be during holiday stand down most will be approved, it just depends on what dates they are approved for.  They can go 5 days "in the hole" for leave, but the rumor is that they are not allowed both holidays (Christmas and New Years), so they will probably get 1 or the other.  Arrangements can not be made ahead of time because it all depends on what they are told after they arrive at their A school, each location can be different.

Wow I got my first phone call from Austin yesterday!  Can't tell you how long I've been on pins and needles waiting for this,  Of all places to be--in the parking lot of a grocery store!

He told me there is talk that they will send him home for the holidays (due to holiday standdown where he would be going), but nothing definite at this point.  He thinks he will be told something that is definite within the week.

He also told me that on 12/15 (day before PIR) they will have liberty time from 8am to 8pm.

Pass it on.    SUZY

LADIES, MY SR CALLED ME, HE SAID HE GETS LIBERTY WEEKEND, & WILL GO TO A-SCHOOL MON, CHECK IN & THEY SEE HOW MUCH LEAVE HE HAS & HE'LL COME HOME FOR A FEW DAYS SINCE IT ALL SHUTS DOWN FOR CHRISTMAS, HES SHIP 11 DIV 018.. PIR12/16

My sons A School is in Pensacola. I'm wondering if he'll receive Liberty and be allowed to come home to Texas??  Christmas is 9 days after PIR, then the New Year holiday. I'm so lost.  He's not a letter writer so I don't know what is going on with him.  He had to be set back and put into the PASS program. He was supposed to have had PIR on 12/2, but had an emotional set back. GRRRR
