OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

my son left for bootcamp yesterday and im having a very hard time and need someone to talk to
my son left for bootcamp tuesday,monday he went to cleveland to get sworn in and he stayed the night in a hotel and left tuesday for bootcamp. He called me when he got there and could only talk for about 30sec. which i already knew thats what to expect. I know this is what he wants and he was very excited so of course im excited for him and incourage him whenever we talked about it. Im having a hard time with him being gone im so used to him being around the house and this is a big change. He was telling me his recruiter told him after graduation he will go directly to school and not be able to come home between the 2. I was wondering what they do for the holidays can he call home,do they do anything special? also i was told seems how hes there for the holdidays his bootcamp might be longer then 8wks. thanks for listening

Join bootcamp moms this will be great support for you and answer lots of your questions. they get a special dinner and will have special privileges to a point. I think they do get to call home just not for sure any more been to long for me since boot.Welcome to the Navy family.

The holidays might extend his boot camp. And no, they don't get to come home after basic training. They usually get to come home after A school though.
The holidays in boot camp aren't all that special, they get a good holiday meal, and the chance to go to church. Phone calls aren't guaranteed, in fact, few divisions get them that day. No way to tell! You can send cards, but no gifts (except photos, phone cards, or stamps).

My son did not get to come home between bootcamp and A school. He just graduated A school on Nov. 7 and came home on Nov. 8 for 14 days. He just left for his first duty station yesterday :((
He will be spending Thanksgiving alone as the base he is at is closed down for the holiday. Luckily we had an early Thanksgiving this past Sunday.

i wish i wouldve had a thanksgiving dinner before he left,his dad did have him a send off party and me and his step dad did take him to a nice dinner and a movie the night before he left. I feel bad for your son,im glad you had thanksgiving with him earlier,that was nice.

Welcome to the Navy. My step-son is 4 weeks in today. We got our first letter about two weeks in. We have since received two more. We were also blessed to get a phone call from him this past Saturday. He sounded wonderful. I know that it is hard not having him home for the holidays, but rest assured he is in good hands. Our son has PIR on 12/29. He said that that he will be taking 6-8 days of leave between PIR and A school. I think that it depends on which A school that your son goes to. He may get a few days of Liberty after PIR or he may have to report right away. The best piece of advice that I can give you is to keep sending letters and pictures as often as you can. They can recieve letters Monday - Friday and can send letters on Sundays. It is so very important that they keep getting letters, cards and such to help them keep up their spirits. You never know when they could be having a bad day and need that little extra something to get them through the day. We have tried to stick to every other day. We have also enlisted our familes to send letters as well. We have sent some family photes and our daughter has colored/drawn pictures for him. He has let us know how much those mean to him. It doesn't have to be anything long, just a note from home to let him know that he is loved & missed. It also is a great chance to let them know how very proud we are of our SR's. You are more then welcome for listening. We are all here for each other. Keep you chin up and just keep thinking about how handsome he will look in his Navy Whtie's. :) Happy Thanksgiving!!!!

thank you for the reply. Im keeping my chin up and cant wait for graduation day,i will love to see how much he has changed. When i get his first letter i am to give his sister the address so she can go on his facebook and post his address to his friends because he told me before he left he hopes he gets lots of letters because he said it will help him get thru boot camp. I am very proud of him and i know he really wanted to be in the navy,when he first enlisted he was over the weight limit he really worked out hard and he texted me from meps monday the day before he went to bootcamp and said he lost 30lbs,he was so excited. so for the hard work he put in to be in the navy i know he is very serious about being there,which makes me feel so proud!
