Hi Ladies.

Any advice you all have would be fantastic, as I am completely new to all of this...

OK, so here it goes.

First of all a little background.

My husband leaves for boot camp as an undesignated seaman the end of January. We have one child and we live in Southern California.

Question #1

Will my husband be asked his input for duty stations before boot camp is over?

Question #2

When he is finished with boot camp as an undesignated seaman will he be sent out on a boat immediately or will he get a duty station and move his family first?

Question #3

I just found out that I am pregnant. With one child already will they kick him out now that we have another one on the way? Should he tell them before boot camp or after?

I am just trying to figure out what the best way to go about all of this is, because if I am going to be without a husband when the baby is born I will need to stay with family...

*goes crazy*

help.

1. He may get to fill out a dream sheet for orders in boot camp.  Note the word "Dream".

2.  He will be sent to training for a few weeks, then receive orders to his first command.  It will almost certainly be a ship, although he might not have to go to sea immediately if it is deployed.  He might be able to come home and move you, but he might not.  Have a Power or Attorney made up in case you have to arrange the move yourself. (Just so you know, boats are submarines, ships are ... ships).

3.  To join the Navy, he can only have two dependents, a spouse and one child.  Otherwise, he needs a waiver.  If he says nothing, then breaks down or slips up at the "moment of truth" in boot camp when they verify all the information he has given them, he can be sent home.  He should inform his recruiter ASAP and ask what to do.  He should NOT lie, that is sure trouble.

His pay will be spotty at first, it always is during basic.  Save up enough money for two months of expenses and bills, NOW.  Skimp on Christmas if you must, be have cash in hand in case his pay is delayed.  It happens at first.

He needs to tell the recruiter ASAP that you are with child...more paper work will be requried.

1) No, boot camp has nothing to do with orders.

2) Most undes seamen go straight on a ship. Since he's married and has 2 kids that might affect his orders though.

3) No they won't kick him out. He should tell admin though so they can adjust his BAS.

Few corrrections to what you said:

All undes get their orders to their first duty station while in bootcamp, so yes they do fill out a dream sheet in bootcamp.

Being married only means they can't go over sea's for their first tour...doesn't mean anything else.

BAS is ONLY for the Sailor..it doesn't matter how many kids their are BAH is the same.

You guys are awesome. Thanks for the help!!
