My son leaves for bootcamp on Monday. He was originally scheduled for December 20th. Before Christmas, but close enough that we could have had an early Christmas and it would have felt like it. We were only told a couple weeks ago that they would be moving up the date and then only yesterday that it would be Monday. I keep crying like a little baby. It seems so silly because it isn't like he'll be gone forever. My husband and younger son think I'm silly for crying, but I can't seem to help myself. Are there any other mothers out there struggling with this?
They say it's empty nest, but I still have my younger son around. I guess I just worry how my older son will handle bootcamp. He made this choice all on his own and we support him completely and are extremely proud of him. He keeps counting down the days and telling me to see my reaction I think. I have tried not to cry around him even though he knows I will come Monday.
I would appreciate hearing from any mothers who have been there or are there now.

I heard that we only get 4 tickets to graduation. Do you know if that is correct? My husband, son and I would like to be there, but so would my mother and stepfather and possibly my brother. That would mean I would need two more tickets. Do you know if this works kind of like high school graduation where you could pick up extra tickets from another family who might not be planning to use all of their tickets?
I read that as well...Not sure how that will work.
Did your son go in on December 5? If so is the February 3rd date the graduation date for that group?
My son was moved up a week and left Dec 4 while I was traveling for work. It was strange to come home and not see him. I did get my call that he made it on the 5th and his box arrived yesterday.
Our youngest son just graduated the Marines in SanDiego in November so I guess this is my second time around. I'm glad we had the longer Marine boot camp first to break us into this new life. I have learned a lot so far. We hope he loves the Navy as much as his brother does the Marines. It's nice to have him closer to home for boot and graduation.
I look forward to sharing this experience with you all.
My son left for basic at Great Lakes on 12/5. Although is't only been a week I'm still having a hard time with his being gone. I'm so proud of him for enlisting but the mother in me tells me that he's still my baby. I received his clothes that he wore to basic yesterday and that made me feel worse than I was already. Maybe our sons will meet if he's at Great Lakes and we can share more stories.
Yes mine is in Great Lakes that's where all the Navy go for Boot. They are all there together.
They will always be our babies but now someone else is in charge of what they do not us Moms. We should be getting a letter with their info so we can mail them. My other son just did Marine boot for 3 months and we sent lots of letters. I wasn't expecting much but he wrote every week.
You will be so surprised when you see your son on graduation he will be a man. You are never alone we are all in this together.
My bf left on the 5th. Is he in the same group with people that left the 6th?
For tlee326: My son left for Great Lakes on 12/7. Our sons must be there together. I haven't received his clothes yet, but I know it'll make the ache worse when I do. I'm sure we'll sob like crazy. We can't seem to reconcile why we feel such sadness, since we're happy he's following his dream. I guess it's the permanent mark our children leave in our hearts, and when they're not there, the spot aches. It's the letting go that's hardest. What's funny is we raised our kids to be very independent and to take initiative, so you'd think this would be easy for us. No so. Anyway, I wish you and your son all the best.
For Austin's Mom: Nice pic!!!! My ex and I have raised our kids to be very independent as well. I was really lost the first day but when he called back to tell me that he had mad it he sound very cheerful so that made me feel much better. He also told me that had hit it off with one of the guys that was leaving with him, so that too made me feel better.
