my daughter left today 12/12 for boot camp in great lakes she is 21 years old but i feel lost without her already. it just feels so different then when she went away for college.i know there are many people that go through this everyday. its just so hard for me, i work with two people who have had their young men go away and i really dont think they felt the way im feeling. Im told by some of my family members that i need to grow up. she is a adult and this is the life she has chosen. i think its more that im not gonna be able to talk to her when i want to, and have her come home for those special occasions. when something does bother her i want to know that and be able to help her through those times and im not gonna be able to do that all the time. i do know i have to loosen those aprons strings but boy it sure is hard. as im writing this she is sitting at ther airport in harrisburg pa....plane leaves at 5:20 will arrive in chicago and from there take a bus to great lakes. the time zone is different there, she said it will be about 10:30 their time when she calls so i will make sure im up at 11:30 our time (new york). i will make sure i dont fall asleep at 9:00 tonight. i would love to hear from any mother whose child has left today for great lakes, im just curious how many mothers children may be with mine and from anyone that might beable to let me know that im not inmature about this in general. im very proud in the choice she has made to serve our country, its just gonna take a little bit of time to adjust to it.

I have told myself this is what I have worked towards since he was born. Him going out into the world in a productive manner. It will be great when he is done with basic and we have more contact. I do understand if he was able to call as much as I want him to, he would never grow up.
I n understand this is hard on us. Fortunately our sailors are so busy they have little time to think of anything besides their new job. My sailor left on the 12/6. We are in the same time zone so our "I made it Mom and Dad" call came about 9:30 PM. I got his box after the first week. I still have not opened it. It is hard to walk in his room but I remind myself he is inthe field of his choice and will be an asset for the navy. Today though we got his first letter and we all went to write our letters to him. We too have never been away from each other during the holidays but it is his turn to spread his wings and start his own life on his terms. There are sacrifices being made by all and we will definately do our part to support our sailor. I will tell this. I am writing him every day!
I got the box today. I am verry dissapointed. I thought the form letter came in it. Nothing in the box gave me any info and he sent back the small sheet of stamps I sent with him.:(
wow he just left for great lakes 12/13 and got the (BOX) today ,made me cry !
That was so quick -I guess I better take a few strong breaths for courage!
My son left on the 13th as well and I got his box on Friday too. Have you got his letter yet? I wonder if they are in the same division?
My son left on 12/13. i know how you feel. He is 18 and everyone has told me too that it's time for him to be on his own. I miss him greatly, i worry about him getting sick or injured, and i know that it was the right choice for him, he is a very strong boy, but i'm not so sure that i'm a strong mom. I'm also very proud of him and all the young men and women that chose to serve this country.
My son's 21 married but still my baby he's the youngest of 3 boys but still my baby ,everybody thinks I am crazy for so upset but like I told them until they go thru this they will never understand .Not knowing if he is alright is the worst part of him being gone ,No communication is hard ! I am used to him being a couple of miles away and being able to call him when I want to! When he went to college it was local so no worries there ! I know he is a head strong person so that is the only thing getting me thru this time !I also am very proud of him all the young men and women that serve our country!Hang in there tammie we will get thru this together!Happy Holidays!
Thank-you Texasproud6272. we WILL get through this. Happy Holidays to you too!
My son left the 14th. I know I have a lot of mixed feelings. Proud, nervouse, anxious - well you know. I am sad we won't be together for Christmas and I thought I was prepared for that we had celebrated a little bit with him. That was hard because I had no idea what to get him. You know give them a toy that can't play with can be cruel.
I did miss his call. I was not home from the airport yet and he called the house not the cell. I was upset about that but glad to know he was safe. I don't think you are being immature. These are our babies and they always will be not matter how old they become they are just kids acting all grown up.
I agree tonabowen, with the statement these are our babies and they always will be no matter how old they, but I think I messed up today my son's BOX came to my house and I called his wife to tell her everything was in the box he took with him and now she is mad at me for opening it .I did tell her I was sorry but so excited I had to pen it....Guess I should have let her open it! I hope he calls her instead of me so she won't be mad me for that too!
GOD BLESS EVERYONE AND THEIR FAMILIES AND SAILORS!!!!!!!!:)
