Hi, everyone!! My sister is in Ship 02/Div 912 also.
My son graduated Navy Boot Camp in 2010. I cannot not begin to tell you what a help this navy for moms website is. It was a wealth of information for me. I learned so much from other moms who went thru it before I did. Please take full advantage of it. One of the most important things for us (whose kids where in the same div/ship) was info sharing. When one mom received a letter with info on the group, she would share info with the other moms. That info included how the recruits were doing, if they mentioned that there was a certain day they would be able to make a call home, if they were going to take a test or how they did on a test, etc. It was never personal info being shared, but more helpful & insightful information. Not every recruit is a 'good' communicator and by sharing the division "news or updates", it was a great relief for those moms whose hearts are wondering how their recruit is doing.
So saying all that, I recommend that you really band together as navy moms. It is one of the most amazing & beautiful things to see moms coming together and supporting each other. After all, even though we know our recruits are in good hands, part of our hearts are in Great Lakes for the next two months! :)
One more thing, I would never give out the name of your recruit or other "identifable" information. I found out (by personal experience) that those at recruit training command sometimes visit these groups and read them. You don't want your recruit being 'called out' and embarased because of something you wrote. So, my advice is no pictures of them or names.
Join the group, PIR 02/10/2012 TG 12 — 11 Divisions (061–068, 805, 806 & 912 (clickable link), to connect with others with loved ones training with your SR. There is a Discussion within that group for that Division. Since your Recruit is in a performing division, you may also want to join the Group, 900's division sailors (clickable link). There will be information on there that relates to your situation.
Hi, my daughter is also in Div 912 Ship 02. I haven't heard from her since her phone call two weeks ago and the note on the form letter that I got. I miss her so much but I try to keep busy so the days can go by fast. I've heard that they won't be able to call until after the 3rd week but I'm not sure. I keep checking the mail for any letters but can't wait to go see her graduate.
Yes, recruits often earn a call in about week 3 and have usually received mail by that time. If her Division is doing very well, then the Recruits in that Division will earn more calls.Calls before then are most often due to needing additional information, often to assist with Security Clearance, or due to a problem and are on the Navy. If you have a phone call from the 847 area code, or US GOVERNMENT, or Private Call, or Restricted, be sure to answer!!! (It is possible that a Recruit could call from another area code as well--773, 224, 312, 872 are all area codes in that area.) If she didn't take an activated phone card with at least 400 minutes, send her one in your next letter.
In the Navy, "No news is good news." Your Recruit will be permitted to contact you almost immediately if something goes wrong, and if she cannot, the Navy will.
As far as letters, at first Recruits are only permitted to write on Sunday and later they are able to write on Tuesday and Thursday and some Divisions may earn the privilege of writing every day if they are doing really well. Some RDCs permit them to mail letters only on Sunday/Monday even when they can write on other days and others permit them to mail letters on the day they are written. It is up to the RDC and there does not seem to be a "norm" for this. Regardless of how many letters you get from her, keep writing because letters mean so much. Those in 900 divisions often have less time to write due to all the practices, so letters are shorter or less frequent than in some other divisions.
You may see her in the photos on the RTC fB page (clickable link) about 2 weeks before her own PIR since 900 divisions participate in a couple of PIRs befoe their own.
This may be a dumb question- Div 912- what does the 912 indicate?
