Hello. I am a veteran mom with a son who had a SEAL contract. As you will eventually find out, spec ops divisions are a bit different than the other divisions. I am glad to help with any questions or support for this very bumpy ride. Best of luck to your sons.

I wont be able to go to PIR...we're having a baby around that same time!! (yeah...big ol' changes in our household!!) But his dad is going to go... we were going to buy him a new laptop so he can skype and see the baby, etc....but if internet access is scarce, do you think it would be worth it? I mean, I can always just send him photos through his iphone.... what do you think? Worth buying? or wait?

Also.... what are the chances he could get a weekend to fly home? Hubby said he wouldnt know for sure until he was actually IN buds prep... but I figured you might know. It would be lovely if he could come home for our sons baptisim!! But I dont want to get my hopes up if it's unrealistic....

Thanks in advance! :)

Travelbugg congratulations. I don't think its unrealistic at all. He will have accrued 5 leave days at PIR so all he has to do is put in a chit to come home and hopefully he will be approved.  I would still get him the laptop, especially since you have so much to share. They will know where to go to get a signal in the building.

Hi there!   I also have a son, in ship 4 div 804 that has a SEAL contract.....I so appreciate your time and concern to inform all of us new-comers!   Will pre-BUDS start the Monday following PIR....he is scheduled 2/3/12 to graduate....we have not heard from him in a couple of weeks...no  letters or even a phone call !  Is pre-BUDS real positive in terms of "preparing" them...both physically and mentally????

Yes pre buds will start Monday following PIR. It will start out slow, so there may be some much needed down time. Pre Buds prepares them for the evolutions they will have in BUDs, PT, swimming, testing of times. Drownproofing will be introduced to prepare them for pool comps in phase 2. Its less intense, but still physically and mentally challenging.

Sorry you havent recieved any letters, he may be just too tired. You may not recieve any phone calls until the day after Battlestations which will be coming up in the next few weeks. Did you get 2 calls so far?

Thanks so very much for replying......no we have only recieved one phone call .....so "on alert" for the second at any time!  But as Navy talk goes..."no news is good news"!   A couple other questions....will he be able to come home between pre-BUDS and BUDS????  If not, when? Where do they live during pre-BUDS...do they have bunk mates (does their bunk mate/team from basic stay intact at all?), or have several staying together???  How strict/free/flexible is thier "down time"???? I am just counting down until 2/3/12!!!!  Again, thank you so very much for your time!!!!!

Has anyone recieved the 2nd phone call yet?

Christie he is only moving across the street from where he is now. They move shortly after PIR. You will have to go back and get him when he calls you. They wont have any time to come home between PreBuds and BUDs. They leave as a class. Prebuds has a room that sleeps 3 (I think) My son had only one room mate. Actually I saw a picture and it wasnt all that bad. They have a desk and closet to theirselves. I sent my son a warmer blanket that he requested, he said the rooms are cold. They can put all their stuff in the closet and it doesnt get inspected. I dont know about your recruit, but I can imagine what my son's closet looked like. lol Nights and weekends are free, but are restricted at first to just the base. Every third weekend he will have watch and cant leave base at all, but will have great stories to tell. boys will be boys.  Once he graduates, he can give you that schedule.

I hope this helps

My sailor called me for the second time yesterday!(: but it was because he hadf won an award by7 being nominated by his chief because of his performance. I dont know if that counts lol but that was the second call I recieved.

He told me that this coming week is the basic "Hell Week" because they have like 5 inspections and then his RDCs said everything after that is down hill easy stuff

I think I read 806 was getting calls. Just maybe this division will be getting them too.

Very nice Courtney. I am sure you are proud.

I have invited AZKmom to help out. Her son is PreBuds now, so she will be a big help with information.

I got a 2nd phone call too...last week of December. But it was because we had some paperwork issues that needed to be fixed... so he got a few minutes to talk, but it was pretty hushed and he had the office staff rushing him off the phone the whole time. But he said a few others were able to call home earlier that week. He said I shouldnt expect to hear from him again though, and that he wouldnt be getting a "real" call home since he needed to use our call to get stuff fixed... bummer. But it was nice to hear his voice! Even if it was only a call about social security cards and fax numbers!!
