OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Help with driving tips?
I am driving from PA to IL. I leave 1/25 at about 5am. Graduation is 1/27. On graduation day, I want to be there for the opening of the doors at 6:30, how early should I leave my hotel? It's supposedly 3.5 miles from the base? I'm staying at the Springhill 4101 Fountain Square Place, in Waulkegan/Gurnee,

They do have a shuttle and I am wondering if I should take it. I'm afraid though, that I won't know what time my kid can walk off base and the shuttle showing up and her not being ready to go yet.

The shuttles have several different times that they leave the base. Most just continuously make loops from the hotel to the base till everyone have left the base. I took a shuttle and recommend that you do to...that way you can fight the traffic and when you get to the hotel your recruit and get comfortable quicker. Take a change of clothes...comfortable clothes. But remember that they have to wear their uniforms outside in public...even have to wear Navy issue bathing suit.

i chose not to do the shuttle. get up early. we got onto base at like 6am. and we waited outside the building that the grad was actually in. the reason i didnt do the shuttle is bc i wanted control of my transportation especially since we could take our SR off base afterwards. just a thought.

I guess just speaking from our experience, from Oct. is to be flexible, so having your own transport may be the way to go. Our sailor graduated in Oct. and he was to continue school there. After grad. we saw him for a few minutes then he had to go get transferred to his new ship. we waited about 2 hours or more, drove to the main gate, and waited another 45 min. for them to come out. He had a curfew, and we had to bring him back. lots of waiting. We were at the gate by 6:30 a.m. I recommend it. Couldn't believe how fast things filled up by 7:30 or so. Make sure you sit in the section across from the division your son/daughter is in! Enjoy

I from this area, if you are driving from Gurnee to North Chicago you will run into morning traffic from Gurnee mills mall and abbott lab. With that being said it will roughly take you about 20 mins to get to the base from your hotel. I would suggest, when you get into town, coming off of 41 turn right onto Buckley take it to it ends, this is the main gate to the base. Set your GPS to the hotel from there and will give you a general idea of your travel time to/from the hotel.
