My son left for bootcamp on Wednesday and I've been crying off and on ever since.  I feel so lost not beling able to call him, FB him or contact hm in any way.  I never thought it would be this difficult.  I'm really struggling. I'm not worried about his safety, just feel so disconnected, like he's gone forever.  He is my firstborn too, maybe that's it?   I don't know, but he reached this milestone that I feel like I wasn't prepared for.  Anyone else feel like that?

Thank you, I would like to friend you also for email.  I will try to friend you if that is ok?

I know what you mean.  It is so very hard to be without our children for so long.  I miss my son terribly.  He left 1/5.  I'm aching to hear his voice.  When I read that your son cannot wait to go, I thought of my son and it made me smile.  He was so excited and proud on the day he left.  I try to remind myself of that when I miss him most.  He's living his dream.  Few have the courage to do what our children are doing.  Yes, we've done a good job raising them.  :)

Hard to remember when you miss them soooo much.  But we must remind ourselves daily, that is what makes them happy and what they want.

I have not gotten my letter yet saying when graduation is, his address, etc.. Does anyone know what dates his graduation will be? He left Wed., Jan. 4. He's at Great Lakes, Ship 02, Division 914.  Any info will be great! Thanks!!

Leesa

Hello Leesa. My daughter left on Jan 3rd, and her graduation day is March 2nd. More than likely, that will be his graduation date. My daughter is on Ship 2, Div 915.

I was wondering when and if they are allowed to call what day they are allowed to call on.. evening or during the day?  My son left on Jan. 9 and we haven't received a call except for the 15 second one to tell us he got there!  We have just been staying home afraid to go anywhere because we might miss his call.

ohh ok ty :)

My son leaves for bootcamp next Tuesday, and like you I've been crying a lot.  I've been thinking about the sailing ships from centuries ago and how their families didn't hear from them for years.  I don't know how they stood it.  I think one reason it's so hard for us is that today we are so involved in our kids lives and through technology we are in constant contact with them.  It is a radical change to not be able to talk to our children.  My son who heads to boot camp is my third child. His sister and brother went away to college, but I could still text, talk and e-mail them on a regular basis.  It's funny, they always wanted  more contact than when they were still in high school.  Going back to the one who heads off to bootcamp next week, he says he doesn't want to talk or think about it his last week at home. He said he just wants to enjoy being here.  I'm like you, I'm not really worried about his safety - college kids die every year - its just being disconnected.  I know I'm going to cry more because this is the hardest thing I've ever had to do as a parent but I know it is the right thing for him so that helps.  This is going to be a very long year.  I'm glad to have this forum.

yes!! I miss my girl she left last Monday...and called Saturday crying she wanted to come home!! it broke my heart!

My kids have travelled a lot without us so I hope that helps some.  Has your daughter travelled any without you?

I recieved a phone call on Saturday as well  , She said it was really hard, but  she had made a couple friends.  Im holding onto that till my letter comes or a phone call....  She did say I know it will get easier thou.  Don't worry mom.  I pray for all our recruits thru this bc..

Today is another day closer to 3/2/12...

HELP!!! i do not know what I am doing, my girl is in his group, or unit what ever it is called...I feel the same way!
