My son left for bootcamp on Wednesday and I've been crying off and on ever since.  I feel so lost not beling able to call him, FB him or contact hm in any way.  I never thought it would be this difficult.  I'm really struggling. I'm not worried about his safety, just feel so disconnected, like he's gone forever.  He is my firstborn too, maybe that's it?   I don't know, but he reached this milestone that I feel like I wasn't prepared for.  Anyone else feel like that?

I have been, but I am getting better at it, I am just glad to hear other moms feel like I do, I guess its hard to just realize my son is grown up and is ready for another phase of his life. I miss him terribly, and find myself in tears sometimes, like today when I recieved a little hand written note on the PIR papers that arrived to I really recieved them fast he just left on Jan 31.and will PIR on Mar 30, if all goes as planned. I really miss him, but I am super proud of him also, and am looking froward to graduation where I can see for myself that he is ok, and give him a big hug.

To newcomers, please check the information contained in the following discussion group - it will have links to Boot camp group, the PIR groups - these are the groups you need to join in order to meet others with recruits in the same division. If you have your form letter, this will be easy. If not, wait for that form letter before making any plans for PIR.

Empty-nest syndrome is the name given to a psychological condition that can affect a woman around the time that one or more of her children leave home. In 2009, with unprecedented numbers of young people going to college, it is so common that Parentline Plus have actually established an advice line for people who have it.

It's not a term you'll find in many medical text books, but it has become a useful phrase for encapsulating the feelings of sadness and loss that many women experience when their children no longer live with them or need day-to-day care.

It's most common in autumn, when vast numbers of teenagers have just left home for college or university.

It can also happen when a child gets married, because matrimony is a clear signal that Mum is no longer needed in the same way she once was.

Normal reactions
It's natural for a mother to feel some sadness when her child leaves home.

It is quite normal to have a little weep now and again – or even go into the absent child's bedroom and sit there for a bit in an attempt to feel closer to him or her.

We know of a successful, busy and confident woman - an agony aunt, in fact - who admitted she went into her son's bedroom to sniff his T-shirt shortly after he left to go to university for the first time.

So don't be ashamed of your feelings - they are natural.

We've stayed at the Marriott for so many tournaments... I think they are good.  My mom, who is on here too, she is the one that called them and they seem to have as many perks as the rest... breakfast included, free shuttle to the base... I guess they're all comparable.. but like I said, I've stayed at so many in different states, I really like them and always had a great experience.  :)  We are driving though.. only 13 hours one way.  Renting a car to go.   We are all here to keep one another posted on events and the moms that have been through this are GREAT... they know exactly what we are going through and have been through PIR, the traveling and where they stayed......:)    I've learned a lot from them so far!!  ((hugs)) to you... we are all in this together <3

Hi There(0:

Just wanted to let you know that I got TWO letters from my girl in this morning's mail!!!!!!(0:  I was SO relieved to hear from her that I actually cried at the mailbox!! - Ugh!  Sounds like she is doing well although it does sound like PT is going to be a challenge for her)0:  She is tough, and I am praying she sets her mind to it!  She said the food is good, the shots hurt like crazy (but then again she and her Momma have ALWAYS been bad about needles),the "Abandon Ship" exercise was scary for her.  I have no doubt, as I figure they have a platform about 100ft. in the air that they have to jump off of??? She did say she got sick from the flu shot (maybe) but that it wasn't terribly serious.  It was Sunday that she was allowed to write, so I am hoping for more next week?

Still NO packet about graduation - aaarrrrggghhhh! I am getting very stressed about that)0:

Thanks for listening!!(0:

Congratulations NavyDoodle!! That's awesome!

I realize it wouldn't really be 100 ft.  I was being a bit fecicious(0:

Yahhhhhhhhh!!! So glad you heard from her, and she is doing well!  I can only imagine how relieved you are!  And crying at the mailbox... yah, that'll be me too! :)    So glad she is doing well!  :)

I haven't received anything... no letters or form letter.... I am soooo anxious/upset/worried...not sure how to feel.  I wish I'd get something.  Part of me wonders if there is anyone else in that division...are they holding her until they get more??  I don't know what to think anymore!   sigh

Hi Robin(0:

Didn't you and I decide our daughters are in the same division???  Some days it's all a blur)0:

I feel the same way, anxious/upset/worried, just truly want THIS part to be over with for us and for our girls!!!!!

I tried to call the recruiter this morning about her graduation info., but no answer there either.

Keep me posted - and hang in there, at least we can communicate with each other(0:

My daughters ship is 03 and Div. 096.....I thought I read your daughters was  095, I could be soooo wrong??    It is a blur... that is for sure.

I am getting so impatient on receiving this form letter...... her recruiter is on vacation  until monday.  He will be getting a call from me then if I don't hear anything :)

Yes, I will surely keep you posted and please do so for me....... i'm glad too, that we can communicate our feelings, knowing that we all understand how one another feels..  :)

No, my daughter is Div. 096 Ship 03 as well(0:  I thought I remembered that we were "in the same boat." !!! (0:

Yahhhhhhhhh! I don't know why I thought she was 095..... So glad I had that wrong ;) and we're on the same boat! Hoping I hear something soon too...... Have you heard from other moms with daughters in our ship/division?
