Choose your Username.  For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either).  Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username.  While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups!  Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself!  Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility. 

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.  

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

I copied this from RTC Facebook page for all of you who have a Sailor graduating on 3/16/12: A very large graduation with 14 divisions graduating...

There will be 14 divisions graduating March 16, 2012. For those who will be attending that day, there are a few things you should note:

 

1) Additional Guests.  There will be 14 divisions graduating, thus, we want to be clear that entry for additional guests will be limited. Those guests who are on the access list, as well as active/retired military with proper ID, who arrive early will be allowed entry. When the drill hall capacity has been reached, access to the drill hall will cease and no more guests will be allowed entry. Those guests who arrive after 8:30 a.m., whether on the list or not, will be compromising their admission into the drill  hall if we reach capacity before then. Please note that at a 14-division ceremony last year, approximately 100+ people were unable to be accommodated. Be sure to communicate with your recruit to confirm the four names he/she will submit to the guest access list.

2) Gate access: The line of cars accessing the base is going to be long. The gates open at 6:30 a.m. and cars to begin lining up as early as 5 a.m. Do not wait until the last minute to get to the base. All guests should be in their seats by 8:45 so the determination can be made as to how many additional guests will be allowed. If you take a hotel shuttle or taxi, you will be dropped off at the gate and will either walk to the visitors center which is about 100 yards. With smaller graduations, walk-ins can usually check in directly at the drill hall, however, with the amount of expected guests, you will most likely will be directed to the visitors center.

3) Great Lakes A School: If you recruit will be staying at Great Lakes for A School, that process is going to take about four to five hours. Your recruits will be able to give you a call when they are ready to be picked up at the visitors center on the main base. Do not stay at RTC and wait for them. Directions to the main base visitors center will be available at the Public Affairs desk located in the lobby.

You will have many questions regarding PIR. Where to stay? When to get airline tickets? What to do around Great Lakes? How to order photos, dvds? How do I sign up for the multiple meet and greets for parents?  What should I were? You will be able to find many answers by joining this group - PIR REFERENCE INFORMATION GROUP (clickable link).  There will be very few experiences like this in life - enjoy it. Be proud of your recruit.

My daughter is graduating on 3/16/12.  I'm bring my mother along who is 81 and a lil physically challenged.  Does anyone know if there is accommodations for parking.

Yes, there is handicapped parking and they have wheelchairs available. Make sure you put your handicapped placard in your rear view mirror as soon as you get through the main gate. They will guide you to the handicapped parking stalls.
