Hi ladies, I have different situation than the ones already posted. My husband just graduated from GL n is still there for 3-4week training not Aschool. He's undesignated and received orders to SD as soon as he graduated BC. We still dnt know if we are going to move DITY or PCS. He told me that, he will strike for a rate as soon as he arrives at SD base and that if he does passes the test he would be sent to Aschool most likely in Florida. School would be for approx. 19 weeks.

My question is if I choose the pcs move to SD, will they pay for me to move again w him during A-school in Florida?

I also want to know how to find out if he has a sponsor? It seems that he doesn't have enough time to fill out all the paperwork for housing. And 4 weeks seems like a very short time to prepare for a move across the country!
Thanks in advance!

I just went through alot of this in the past 6 months with my husband.  First of all, we did a dity, we made some money, but not much.  If it's too much of a hassle for you, it's not worth it.  It wasn't that hard for us to move ourselves, so it was worth it, but next time we'll let the Navy do it for us.  Second of all, they will not move you down to pensacola, he would only be there for 19 weeks, so they would not move you again.  So would he be going back to SD after A school?  Unless he is, I don't think I'd mess with moving out there either.  He should have a sponsor in his new location, but you can rely on them for anything.  Our didn't do ANYTHING prior to my husband checking into his duty station.  I got on the phone and got housing all situated myself.  Get a power of attorny and start googling how to do this stuff.  I asked the people at different housing offices and they were very helpful.  Also, you'll have to go to your closest military base to set up either the dity or the pcs.  I was AMAZED at how much I had to do on my own and how much research I had to do myself.  BUT we moved right into our housing when we did move which apparently is unheard of around here.  Alot of people have to stay in hotels for a while, or get house hunting leave to find housing for their family.  Good luck with everything, it's stressful, but you'll be living all together soon!!

Hi Esther22, thanks for your response. Depending on how long is his leave in Feb, we will decide on DITY or not. I thought if Aschool is longer than 90days, wives are allowed to move closer to their husbands? 19weeks is a long time away from my husband.
I dnt know what really happens when they strike for a rate n go to Aschool. Idk if they get to go back to their first duty station or do they get new orders for a different station??
What exactly do I have to ask for @ the military station for a DITY set up? I actually live w my sis in law in an Army base so at least it's not far...

If A school is longer than 6 months than they'll move you down there.  You can move there, and he can get a brown bagger chit and stay with you after being there a few weeks.  It's possible and people do it all the time.  It will just be financially more on you.  AND I don't know how it works as far as if you move down to FL for just a little while, I don't know exactly if they will pay to move you from Florida to your next duty stations, or if they will only move you from your original residence since you moved on your own to FL, I really have no clue on that.  I agree 19 weeks is a long time.  My husband had A school in Pensacola and was down there for just over 4 months, I went down to see him one weekend, and me and our two kids went down for a week one time.  Since I was living with my parents, we were able to use the bah to travel to see him.  Go to the transportation office and just tell them that your needing to set up the paperwork to do a dity.  They are very used to dealing with clueless people, I felt soooo clueless going in the office and the ladies there acted like it was completely normal.  You will need a power of attorney and a set of orders for him.  You will only be able to do a dity or a pcs to where his orders are for.  Sounds like you will either be moving to SD or you will need to wait until he actually has orders in hand for A school before you move anywhere.  There are ALOT of hotels and extended stay places around military bases usually, you could maybe stay in something like that in SD until you know more of what's going to happen.  Just know, with the Navy, nothing is ever set in stone...even when its official paperwork...things can always change.  So just take everything one step at a time.  Good luck with everything!!

ok Thank you so much for all your help.

He can't just strick for a rate as soon as he gets to that command.  He has to be on board at least 12 months before he can request an "A" School.  That is how the Navy prevents what you are saying could happen.  Why would they move him and you to SD...than turn around a few weeks latter and move him to FL?  Not going to happen, costs too much money.
