By the way, which Meet and Greet is everyone going to? So far my mother and I are going to Sarge's, but I'd laugh my butt off if everyone else was going to the Ramada one, and I was the only one at Sarge's and there wasn't a yellow scarf in sighte!! LOLOL
SailorJ, We may try to go to both of them. I may not stay at Sarge's very long if it is crowded. I will definitely go to the Ramada one since we are staying there. I will have my yellow scarf on. Did you ever say how much fabric I will need for the scarf?
Just in from the fabric store. I bought four yards of the fabric. It's on sale right now for $5.49/yard, so I made out pretty well. You probably only need two yards, but I'm making two, and I overestimated, because I have zero experience... LOL. I still haven't found any good iron-on letters, so I'm scouring the internet now. Here's the fabric I bought: http://www.joann.com/blizzard-fleece-fabric-yellow-tie-dye/xprd530147/ After I get it done (IF, that is) this weekend, I'll upload a photo! :)
SailorJ, we are staying at the Ramada as well. We arent going to the one Sarge is doing. We won't be getting into town till after lunch and since we are driving all night, we will be pretty tired. We will be going to the on at the hotel though. Looking forward to meeting you all!
Leslie, I think my mum and I will probably stop at both, as I've made some friends that will be at one or the other. We fly in from Vegas around noon and will make the drive from the city and get settled into our hotel, so with any luck we will be refreshed enough to drop in at both and get enough sleep to arrive at RTC bright and early. Good luck with your drive, and I am looking forward to meeting everyone too!! So glad the time is getting closer!
Hi, Sailor J's Mom! I made fleece scarves. The really easy way with the Joann's fleece is to cut strips across the width of the fabric (about 60 inches?? less a bit of scrap) in a scarf width you choose. I've seen 8" 10" and 12" widths.
I used a rotary cutter with a straight edge, but you can easily use scissors (fleece is forgiving). At each end of the scarf, I trimmed off the edges so they were clean and square. Then simply cut "fringe" at each end. I find about half inch wide fringe "fingers" that are about 1.5-2" long works well.
Also, I have grandchildren and made a 6" wide for the 4 year old, and about 4" wide for the 1 year old.
Hope that helps : )
Hi there! That helps immensely! Thanks a million for the tips!! I'm going to try this tonight, and I'll let you know how I made out! :)
Looking foward to seeing your photo of the scarf!! I will go out tomorrow night and purchase my fabric. Let me know where you find the iron-ons.
I absolutely will do!! So far, I'm looking at a place called Hancock Fabrics here in Vegas, and they have something promising. I'll probably end up going to both of the Meet and Greets then, too.
We are leaving in 17 DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, Leslie!! YAY!!!! Looking forward to it! I am so ready to see my son!
My son is in this Division. I can't wait till PIR. I just joined N4M and have been reading posts about the scarfs. Think I will have to give this a try myself. I have an embroidery business and do some heat press. I'll check it out and see if my material works on the fleece. I'll try to find material tomorrow and try out the vinyl on Monday and let ya'll know how it works.
