hi there- my daughter is also in this ship.  I am right there with you!

I"ve only heard from her briefly on the back of the form letter but I've written every day. She sounded like they were not getting much sleep. I guess that is all part of it

My son is also on this ship...PIR is 4/6/12

Hello. I'm glad we will have this group to share. Thanks for starting it. I'm having a tougher time than I thought I would

i got 'the form letter' today and she wrote quite a bit on the back!  She says its not as hostile as she expected, the worst is the sleep deprivation and haircut.  getting her 'utes and boots' made it feel real now.  Also she said they had to write in pencil!  I feel so much better now hearing her own words!

yeah, on the back of the form letter my daughter wrote a quick note - said she wanted photos - so have did some collage photos at walgreens, which was nice because i was able to put about 40 pics in 10 photos to send her - and they had them ready for me in just a few hours.  I can't wait to hear from her again - and something more real the next time.

so what job will your sailors have - mine will be a nuke -

how old is your sailor - mine is 18

i look forward to getting to know ALL of you  :-)

@kathy - i totally understand what you are saying - i was in the army straight out of high school and did the whole basic training thing and thought this would not be a big deal - but i have to be totally honest being on the other end of is really sucks - at least at boot camp they kept us to busy to think most of the time - now i am having to find things to do and ways to keep me busy so that I don't think - a lot harder then it sounds and this is my busy time of the year - this website though has been great and answers sooooo many questions - some of which I had not even thought of yet -

Hi there! My daugher is also with this group and i did get a quick note on the back of her form letter. I am very anxious to get a "real" letter from her.

My SR is 23 and going into gunners mate for now,  is this an all female division?  sure wish i would get another letter.  i was hoping for one yesterday since Monday was an "off" day for them (as I understand).  But maybe she was catching up on her sleep and I cant fault her for that.  Not getting my quota here since I now have a 2 dog alarm clock that used to sleep with her!

I don't know if it is all female or not, i will mention that in my next letter to her.  My SR just turned 22 she had 3 years of college but decided this would be a better option for her.  She cut most of her hair before she left so the haircut would n't be much of an issue for her.  I do know she likes to sleep so the lack of it will make her cranky :)!  I am waiting another week before i make my travel arrangements just to make sure she is still on track for a 4-6-12 PIR.

My SR also started at college, but wanted to do just majors classes; she said the GE classes were just too boring.  We come from a Navy tradition, and she has many friends who happen to be in service, mostly Navy, so it was an easy jump.  She has naturally curly hair and was tring to keep as much as possible so permed it even tighter!  She said they still cut it :(  .  remember southwest doesnt charge a change of flight fee...

My SR is a bit older than most of the ladies you mention. She finished college and also had a brief career in retail. This was a choice she made and I am so proud of her. Even though it is not the first time she has lived away from home... it is very difficult for me. Im sure she is doing better than I am. I've convinced myself things will get better when I get a letter or hear her voice. Hope that will be soon.
