My son is in this division.  Is anyone else's?

I received my form letter (but no box) and have sent out my first letter along with that great questionnaire and a SASE.  I don't think I'll get 'The Box'.  He was pretty adamant about not taking anything he didn't mind giving away.  Any word from your children?  How are you holding up?  I'm doing a lot better than I thought I would.  I still can't sleep thru the night, but I'm not crying at the drop of a hat as a was at first.

My son hates writing and reading, so I'm not sure how much I'll hear from him.  That's why I found that questionnaire perfect for him.  I'm going to look thru the other ones to send him another one later on.  Has anyone found any other cool things to include in the letters.

I thought I'd start this discussion to at least find out how the division is doing in case my son doesn't tell me much.  I think that if we all share (what we can share, of course), we'll be in the loop.  I don't know about you, but just knowing helps keep me at ease.  That's why I love this website and I check it everyday.

Oh wow!  Sorry to hear that.  We have to trust that the powers that be will make this division into a team.  If this is only Week 2 Day 2, it's pretty early to have that team-like attitude.  They'll get there.  Don't lose the faith!

My son told me too that the team is not working well as a group.  My older son who was in the Army told me that this is to be expected.  Part of BC is learning to be a team.  He told me not to worry because his unit had a terrible time with it and they all learned and eventually did well.  Try not to worry.

thank you!  Just hard hearing that stuff..I guess he has a Navy seal trainer the week that he had to wait and he was so happy he wasn't becoming a seal.

I am so upset right now.  The day I sent my son the third letter, I also sent my daughter, who is away in college, a letter.  To this date, my daughter hasn't received the letter, which makes me think that maybe my son hasn't received my letters either.  I'm furious right now.  The postal service in my town is terrible.  I just wrote him a quick note explaining this and my mother, who lives in another town, will take it to her local post office and mail it early tomorrow morning.  Tomorrow morning, I'll be sending him another newsletter and mailing it from the post office in the next town.  I hope he's getting my letters.  How aweful if he hasn't been.  I don't want him to think I haven't been writing when I've been walking to the post office every two days to mail a letter.  The neighbors already know where I'm going!  Jeez.  Not happy right now....  OK.  Venting is done!

Another division with the same PIR date as ours, got calls this weekend.  So, I guess we are closer to getting them soon, too.  Fingers crossed.

Hi ladies, I'm beginning to worry.  Is everyone ok?  Are we all still here?  Has anyone gotten any letters or phone calls? My fingers are crossed for something this week.  I heard one division got phone calls.  Another division is getting t-shirts made with the ship/div info printed on them for PIR.  Is there anything special this division would like to do?  Let's share ideas!!!

I stayed home hoping for a call - but nothing.  I know that the division is not working together as a team very well.  I wonder if they are being punished.  Last week I got letters on Wed. so I am desperately hoping for one tomorrow.  I would feel so much better if I knew what is going on.

I thought I'd share a little info on the Stages of Team Development:

1.  Forming - getting to know each other; setting the ground rules

2.  Storming - people start pushing the boundaries to determine who has power and how much they have

3.  Norming - people start agreeing and the team tends to move forward from this point on

4.  Performing - team works together well

5.  Adjourning - team worked together to complete the task at hand and it is now time to recap the lessons learned and move on.

I'm a project manager and I go into client site to run projects.  Many times, I'm working with people I've never met before and many times, that specific team has never worked together either.  So, I see these stages in all my projects where people are just working together for the first time.  Thought this would help us understand a little what is happening with our boys.  This is all natural.  Hopefully, they are close to the Norming stage.  Once they get there, everything starts falling into place.

Anyone get any letters today?

One letter arrived from my son today; he wrote it Saturday night.  Guess he may have had a few minutes before bed time.  Most of the content was about missing home and decent meals and his job; I gather from the letter that he is very homesick as he didn't say much about the division except that when the people mess up, they all get IT ("not fun'), the division passed inspection on Thursday, their first academic test was Monday (week 2, day 3), and they had 20 minutes for the entire division to shower. Since I'm trying to keep track of the days, he informed me that week 3 begins Thursday.  It seems the weeks are split by the weekend, with Saturday and Sunday not counted in the 5 day training week - as in last Thursday was 2-1, Friday was 2-2, and according to his letter, Monday was 2-3, Test Day.  Oh!  I almost forgot this part:  "If we pull together, we get a 30-45 minute phone call home around 2-5, roughly"  Maybe that means any day now!!  Yippee!  I just noticed that line as I was rereading the letter.

I got a letter today and his best friend did too!  Sounded good ... hope it's all true.  Did ask us to keep writing so I will.  Was in cursive which surprised me.  Hope that everyone else got a letter too ...

I got a phone call!!!!
