YEA mail is in!!!!!She wrote 6 letters. Foods not bad, IT tough make she says she'll be buff, and will look "snazzy" in her uniform She also wrote of a time they had IT and some were ready to give up and everyone started chanting and yelling" we are family until the day we die-it was inspirational. the the people(or most) who questioned being here don't question it anymore hooray 924! OK I am better now having gotten letters. To all of waiting I will keep you in my prayers.

Got a call from Matt last night and we talked for almost an hour! He sounded great. Says BC is tough but he loves it. Says he does well at inspections and really knows how to fold his clothes the right way. I guess that was from all the training he learned while working at The Gap where he constantly had to fold and refold clothes on the store's shelves. :)
Says Div 924 is awesome, loves his team. They earned their first flag this week for Academics and their overall score was above 4.0 on a 5.0 scale (sorry don't remember exactly what he told me on the scoring). They just got instructions for the Div flag and will begin designing it soon. Has a lot of respect for his leaders some of whom I sure are your sons and daughters.
Shared that they start week 3 next week which confused me as I thought they were a week further into training. Something about their group being a 'push' group. Not sure what that means but sounds like they move through the process fast. Has had to stand watch a few times a week and likes that duty.
Says that lots of sniffles, colds, pink eye, etc. floating around but that the Navy is really good about addressing and attempting to keep people well.
Has a good group of guys in his bunk and many share evening prayers. Thought that was kind of neat. Loves the sports clips that we've been sending him about the NCAA and others Chicago sports. I laughed because he said that when they get mail, the guys in his group want to hear anything and everything about the sports scene. He asked that I keep sending relevant sports clips. :)
Felt so good to hear his voice and so happy that he is happy. Our call has replayed in my mind all night and has certainly made our weekend! Hope all of you got to hear from your sons/daughters as well.

I love to hear all this! Thanks so much for sharing. We received a phone call about a week and half ago from our daughter. "security questions" was the reason for calling. She said then that the Division is working well as a team. I'm glad that is still the case. She will be carrying the state flag for Maryland. She plays 5 instruments, so i was hoping she was in the band. But she is super excited with what she is doing and that's all that matters. :) She shared that there were a lot of people sick, her included. They seem to share the germs quickly. Her letter last week said that the IT can be intense and frequent, but it's all good. She enjoys the prayer circle she and the others have every other night. Foods not too bad. I can't wait to hear from her. I hope she calls in the next few days. As I posted previously, we didn't get call when the rest of the division made calls on Friday. I think she was on watch, but at least RTC notified us that we would be hearing from her soon. Thanks again for your updates. It helps all of us! Where is the MNG at Serge's (address or location?) We are staying at the Residence Inn. Blessings to you all.

Thank you for the information. We will be there. Any news about the division from your daughter's phone call that you can share? I have so many questions and cannot wait until my daughter calls. I really hope they give her the time they said they would. But I guess you never know....

We will be staying at Holiday Inn Express because my husband travels a lot for work and has points to use. She said they get along quite well and she made many friends. She said the practices for PIR ceremony were sort of boring-but she is used to hs colorguard (much different that just carrying a flag! -no flips and twirls). She also said there is a whole different language than home-swearing and such and being called female (which would be better than some other things they could be called!) Getting used to showering as a group-she had her own bathroom when my son left for college so this was an adjustment for her. Able to go to NEX and get shampoo and chapstick,. She actually said her skin looked good-no make up and just washing her face with water.Her call to us was close to an hour-we talked up to the moment they made her get off! Although she sounded kind of tired (and she was) she has a positive attitude. She didn't know if she gained or lost any weight but she said one gal lost 4 inches from her waist from the time they measured for uniforms and now-so they are getting into good shape! Hope you get your call soon.

I'm laughing about the "female" comment. My daughter referenced that in her letter and the other names they are called too. I haven't heard about the showers yet. She too had her own bathroom and sharing I'm sure was an adjustment. The thought of them "ironing our skivvies" every morning brings a smile to my face. She is learning to keep her humor in light of adversity. I am proud of her for that. A 4" waist loss is amazing! They will all have 6 packs. I read through previous posts and picked up that your daughter is a college grad? Is that right? I'm sure being older will serve her well and her leadership skills will be an asset to the division. Good job, mom! I'm so glad you had some quality phone time with her. I look forward to the same soon. :)

It's nice to talk with someone with a daughter! Her brother will be a college grad this year, but she only did one semester and decided to join Navy about 1/3 way through. She felt it just wasn't right for her at this time-always had this in her mind but gave college a try-I am hoping she uses her GI to return someday and take advantage of earning some credits while in the Navy

Yes it is nice to talk to someone with a daughter. I love hearing about the division as a whole too. Our girl's must be the same age. Hopefully they are friends :) I too hope that my SR will finish college while in the Navy. I'm sure it won't be in a normal 4 year timeframe.
