Hello ladies :0)  I am sure this question has been on here several times I just havent found quite the answer I am looking for. When I go to my husbands PIR I am going to need to take a shuttle from which ever hotel I am going to be staying in. I would rather not pay what I am sure to be outragous prices for a taxi, and I will not be renting a car. So shuttle is my option. With this being said I have a few options as far as hotels go that have shuttles to PIR. Was hoping to get a few opinions on which hotel would be the best option for me and my girls. Thank you for your time in advanced. Here goes the list :0)

Red Carpet Inn

Quality Inn Waukegan

Comfort Inn Waukegan

America's Best Value Inn

Ramada Inn Waukegan

Motel 6 Waukegan

Super 8 Motel

Courtyard by Marriott

I would love to be close to the base so top of the list is prefered :0)

I stayed at Ramada Inn Waukegan and do not recommend it.

Hi Jessica,

My mother and I stayed at Marriott Residence Inn Waukegan for my son's PIR a few weeks ago (3/9) and I can tell you that I highly recommend it.  It was clean, the staff was friendly, they have a full breakfast (included) each day (although it won't help on PIR day) and each room has a small kitchenette.  This was particularly handy because rather than going out to dinner Friday night, my mother and I cooked my son's favorite meal.  He was in heaven!  It may also save you money, having children with you, not having to find a place to eat, since you won't have a rental car.  It would be a very reasonable taxi fare to have a taxi take you to and from the Super Wal-Mart less than a mile away to stock up on a few groceries.

As far as the taxi to and from the base; you tell the front desk staff how many in your party and it's $3 per person, each way.  Your husband can come back to the hotel with you to relax for the day, (just make sure you get in the right one going back from the base, and trust me, the drivers will tell you; be sure to get their card) and you'll be fine.  Distance from this hotel to the base is not far...  I had a rental car, and it was only 5-7 minutes.

Good luck, and congratulations!!

So is the $3 the shuttle fare? How much per night did you pay if you don't mind my asking?

Also if you don't mind my asking. How was the room set up?

We just got a studio kitchenette, so it was small, but it had a queen and a pullout sofa.  I believe we paid $85/night.  Be sure to tell them you're coming for PIR, I think you may get a small discount, but I'm not sure.  They also have small suites.  And the shuttle far is $3 per person, but be sure you request the shuttle vs a regular taxi.  Here's their website:  http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/chirw-residence-inn-chicago-w...  I loved this place, thought they were top notch!!

Courtyard Marriott is perfect. Just stayed march 9. Many shuttles that morning of graduation and people at desk are helpful. Get breakfast with room its worth it. Congrats. Tino

Thank you :0)

Hi Jessica,

We are going to stay at the Navy Lodge. I mapquested it and it is only about 1.3 miles to the RTC and $65.00 per night. Our room has two queen beds and a roll out or sofa bed. You can also get one with a kitchette for $66.00 per night. I don't know about the shuttle. We are renting a car but I wouldn't think taxi fare would be too bad. Maybe you could call and find out for sure what it would cost. I really don't know anything about the rooms but I did stay in an Army Lodge one time and it was top notch----very clean and very well kept. I would think Navy would be the same. If you would like to check it out the phone # is 1-800-NAVY-INN or 847-689-1485. You don't have to be Navy to stay here for boot camp graduation. They will just ask what your SR's name is and verify before they book you. We are staying 4 nights so it was much more affordable for us. We saved about 50% of what it would cost to stay at any of the other hotels. Good luck...at least you have a few choices. Maybe someone out there could let us know how the Navy Lodge rates.

Pjay -- How was your stay at the Navy Lodge?  I'm thinking of booking there for my son's PIR.  I had heard that there is not much restaurants close by since it's on the base.

Hi Jessica....I will agree with Tino, Courtyard was excellent.....AAA rate was $70.  I reserved 3 nights, cause I didn't know the liberty schedule before I left, got there thursday afternoon and when I checked out at midnight, the night of graduation, friday, they didn't charge me for the second night.  Clean, friendly, nice pool/hot tub, $3 shuttle...and walking distance to Sarge's meet and greet on thursday night where he serves free food.  Next to Dennys, Chilies, Walmart..... Do your self a favor...call Sarge for taxi service, $50 to and from O'Hare and down right cheap taxi around town for liberty...free Itialian dinner for your SR.  Sarge is John Spadaro...847-212-0246....I emailed him at Johnspadaro@att.net .  If you want a friend in GL for PIR with transportation, Sarge is your guy!!!!!! He took us to the BIG NEX for shopping on liberty, and didn't charge us to take my son and I back to the base and then back to Courtryard to checkout, cause we doubled up with another SR, then he returned and drove me to O"Hare at 1am.  I can't recommend him enough.  Good Luck and prepair yourself for one of the best experiences of your life.

So is this guy a taxi driver, and reastraunt owner? Lol what would I say when emailing him?

The ramada and court yard offer free shutlles to the base
