I have been searching the discussions on this subject and haven't found any. Does anyone know what I can bring my son to take with him to "A" school. Cell phone? Some civilian clothes?

I see that you joined his A school...what is his job going to be?
Do you know what he needs to take (and not to take ) to boot camo?
http://bootcamp.navy.mil/what_to_bring.asp tells some things that are permitted--it says $10, but other mothers are saying $25 now. Other things we suggest are a slim black wallet with the items you mentioned and the following: activated phone card (Ronny and Anna (Ship 12 DIV122) has been sharing about free calling cards at CallsforRecruits.org and/or you can keep the info on the back of a card you purchase and add more minutes if needed.); list of names, addresses, and phone numbers of those he wants to contact; stamps; a few bandaids; a few strips of moleskin (tell him how to use it to prevent/treat blisters); debit card to pay for photos, Keel, and DVD; and a few tasteful family pictures. He may want to take his cell phone, which will be sent back in the box usually in one of his shoes an the battery in the other, so he can make calls along the way and make the "I'm here" call when he gets there.

My son will be graduating on July 13th. It seems that some say he can have personel items such as a cell phone, but others say no. He will not be staying in Great Lakes for A school, as he will be leaving the next day to fly out of state for A school. I want to get him a new cell phone for graduation as his was broken in his box they sent home once he arrived at boot camp. So if anyone knows for sure about this, I would greatly appreciate some guidance on this.
Thanks
Kelley here is the link to your PIR group...lots of info and support
OK sorry but would love to know, is it ok to take my son his lap top and cell phone? He graduates on July 13th from boot camp. He is then going to A school. I have read that some say yes and others say no. Any help would be great. Thank you.
Thank you all so much for all the info.
