I have been searching the discussions on this subject and haven't found any.  Does anyone know what I can bring my son to take with him to "A" school.  Cell phone?  Some civilian clothes?

He cannot wear civilian clothes for several weeks, until he earns his phase two liberty status.  He can have his cell phone, and other small items.  If he checks into his A school at Great Lakes on Friday, he can have his phone right away.  If he stays overnight at RTC, he cannot take any item back with him, but can be given them at the airport.

Ok.  Thank you.  My son will be going to another state for A school.  So I can give him a few small things at the airport before he leaves.  Much appreciated.

My son's recruitor said I can bring him his cell phone, laptop and some civilian clothes.

You can give him his cell phone, laptop, a few favorite snacks, and comfort clothes (favorite underwear)--some A Schools do not allow them to keep the clothes right away, other than underwear, and they get locked up upon arrival and others can keep them, but just can't wear them until they Phase up.  One thing to remember about clothes is that sometimes your SR's shape may change at BC and clothes, especially jeans, may no longer fit.  Everything you bring must be able to fit in a black backpack.  They are now issued the backpack, so you don't need to buy one, but that gives you an idea of how much to bring.  Check the groups for your Sailor's A School and see if there is anything else that you will want to include.  For example, those with MA's will want to include a sealed travel size bottle of baby shampoo for use following OC Spray.  (A School Locations & Groups Chart.xlsx is a Word Document that includes the ratings and links to groups for them if you need help finding a group for your Sailor's rating.)

The link broke, but if you need to find a group for your SR's A School or info about the rating, go to Ratings, A School Locations, and Links to Groups.

Yourself!! My son told me that this was the only thing he truly wanted! He also left for A school at O dark early Saturday AM. His bus left TC at 4:00am!! We met him at the airport and stayed with im until his flight left. We were exhausted, but it was worth every minute.

Oh, and $$$$ was another request.

I think I remember your screen name - good to see people coming back and commenting. Please stay and help out. We put together a survival guide to help new members. Here is the link, please keep it in mind and pass the word. I posted the link below but if you lose the page, don't worry. Great! Thanks Bunker QB. Yes, I was a "regular" this time last year. I lived and breathed Navy Moms from the time my Seabee left for bootcamp until PIR (Mar9-May6 2011).

One thing I do recommend to everyone is, if there is anyway possible for you/your family to attend PIR, PLEASE DO!!!  You will not regret it for a minute. Yes, it can be expensive depending on everyone's different circumstances, but the feeling of pride for not only your Sailor but for your Country and just being an American is PRICELESS!!!

I was in total AWE the entire time. RTC really does this an awesome job.

:) I know this will be a busy weekend but so looking forward to it.

Luisa

My son's PIR is April 13,2012 and I'm thankful for this info in advance. It makes preparing for my trip a lot easier.
