My son arrived at GL 3/5/2012 ..I expected his PIR to be 5/4...But one week sooner..I'm a Happy mamma

My SR never received the Red Cross message that his grandma passed.  So when he earned a call on Saturday night for doing really well on one of the tests, I had to rain on the parade and tell him the bad news.  It sucked, but it was really great to hear his voice, and we didn't linger on the sad we just moved onto other topics.  I do wonder what went wrong with the Red Cross message.  The message got alright to his cousin, but then his cousin is not in bc.   

Then he got to call again Monday night, but I missed it I wasn't home.  He spoke with his dad and he said he sounded good, and they got to talk longer.  

I have received a few letters (3 plus his form letter), I agree that being involved in sports all his life really seems to help them.   He says he likes the RDC, even though he's so tough.   And that everyone laughs at him because of his accent, which he thinks is funny because he thinks everyone else has an accent.  :)   We only live across lake in Michigan, but it just shows how diverse the recruits are.   His letters also say how he enjoys the other recruits and their backgrounds, and their stories.  (We live in a very small town, well village really)

He says that the division is struggling in over all division competitions, but it's getting easier since some who didn't really want to be there are gone.

Does anyone know who's our SR's 'Brother Division' is?   I believe they'll go through Battle Stations together, so I'm curious.

Sounds like I missed out on a phone call :(. According to the letter I got today, he had his wisdom teeth removed last week and was SIQ while he was on the pain meds, which meant he wasn't allowed to get out of bed while everyone else got to go call home. Hoping he gets to make it up, but it's not looking like that'll happen. Though on the plus side, he seemed to find the morphine-induced hallucinations pretty entertaining...

My son had 3 pulled the first week too..I guess they can be trouble down the line..I missed my first phone call from my SR..I was heartbroken,..but I wrote him and I NEVER forget to forward my phone now and answer EVERYTHING..his calling card comes up with a different exchange the 847..we are almost there ladies..soon we will see our little boys and girls and they will not be little anymore...

I received a letter from my SR last night and it sounds like the division is having some trouble remembering all the rules and so their section leaders keep getting IT'ed (intensive training) because of it.  I guess the RDC even had an "ice cream social" where other RDCs from different divisions took turns IT'ing Division 132's section leaders.  

Poor guys, hope they get it together soon.

unfortunately my son is a section leader...His letter came yesterday and he was kinda down but not out..he said one kid had a hard time finishing the run so he slowed to his pace and forced him to finish with encouragement..that was the best day of his life he said..not leaving his teammate behind..the lost a phone call but hopes to have one Sunday..This division needs to pull together and i pray they do before battle stations...Just pray for them...please,,,

I rec'd my 4th letter last night and according to my son nobody in this Div. knows how to keep there mouth shut. So they are having a difficult time right now. He said they like to talk when they shouldnt and they have to give an opinion on everything, which gets everybody in trouble. One phone call priv. was taken away this week cause somebody had to voice their opinion during drill. He said he may get a call on Saturday but dont count on it cause he's living with 68 idiots..( then he said well not all of them) I think he's frustrated he usually see the positive in everything. He did say his bunk mate below him just turned 21 but I didnt give a name.

My son has also complained about some of the people in the division having big mouths and getting everyone else in trouble. I know they expected this in boot camp, but doesn't really seem all that fair for the people who are trying their best. Well .. like Tiffany said ... keep praying for them!

It is hard to throw 80 + people in a room with different backgrounds and expect them to co exist in harmony..but...if you know you are going to be punished why keep doing it over and over..even if you do not like a person you need to respect them. in the fleet that would not be tolerated..I pray VERY VERY hard that they pull together...

HI all!  We received mail today.  Our folks got a letter and then I got my very own letter from my brother(doing the happy for letters dance).  He also sent back a survey that my mother had made for him.  His girlfriend also received some letters at the end of last week.  He seems to be saying the same thing about some of the recruits not following the rules and not knowing how to keep their mouthes shut.  Hopefully they will get it together or simply weed out the few that are causing the problems.  It sucks for the ones that are following what they should be doing.  He said he has guard duty often, he said carrying a gun on guard duty even though there was no firing pin was cool.  They received their blues, whites, tans, and black uniforms.  They have their camos.  Due to blisters getting infected (which in his latest letters he says are healing up now) he has been in sneakers and for a short time was on limited light duty.   As of this week he should be back in boots though.  He said they were having weapons training and fire fighting lessons (from what we figure by the letters/dates it was probably this week).  He said he is Asst Yeoman(calls muster), Windows, Asst Swab Petty Officer, asst educational petty officer.  He has been complimented by both some recruits wanting to "borrow his brain" and the RDC about how smart he is (he's going for Nukes).  He said the weirdest thing to get used to was no bathroom stall doors and the biggest adjustment was no talking, but he's a good one who knows hoe to keep his mouth shut.  He said he sleeps on the bottom bunk and his bunkmate is from Syracuse and is a Buffalo Sabres fan (we are also in NY about 3+hours south from there - Rangers fans though since we are close to NYC).  There is also a guy in the next bunk from Philly.  Any moms from these areas?  He said he shared the sports news of father sent him with these guys.  I had also sent him jokes which he said he enjoyed and cheered him up (sounds like they really appreciate any news from home or outside world just to distract them a little from the toughness of bootcamp - there are some great links if you google military or navy jokes I found a bunch which I sent).  He mentioned the "ice cream social" and about the getting ITed.  He said the food service people are really nice and cheer them up so he enjoys going to chow.  They usually have about 3 choices, different every night, for food and he is sticking to apples for dessert.  He said when he got his uniforms he had to march 2 miles with a 50lb seabag on his back.  He said they had briefings about their jobs and what school will be like, said he would tell us all about it at graduation.  He said Monday (which would be this past Monday) they would find out what their rates (jobs) would be.  For nukes it can be a machinest, electrician, or reactor operator.  He said as a nuke he will be flying out on Saturday out of O'Hare to Charleston,SC, but didn't give any time frames.  Then he would start school that Monday.  He said another recruit was being pushed back a week for disciplinary action, so they lost another from the division and as of Mar. 29th had lost 7 people for medical or disciplinary reasons.  He said they are very busy so he doesn't get a lot of time to write(busy with studying, shining boots, guard duty, or sleeping which he says is a relieve since he is tired most of the time).  He said they were up for about 40hours that first day/s, peanut butter shot hurt, had a sore throat and of course the nasty blisters, only goes outside when has to go someplace, not adjusting well to the tighty whities, glasses are semi uncomfortable and never stay clean (he was so used to wear contacts), 3 RDC's - 1 male & 2 females - they are strict and can be tough at times but are cool, hasn't gone to church yet because it's early but does plan on going for Good Friday and Easter (Happy Easter and Passover btw everyone), he wasn't sure why they are in a push class but said it can be harder since they have to work faster (shorter amount of time than the regular classes), he did say he was command recruit petty officer for a day also.  We are so proud of how well he seems to be doing thus far.  Even though he admits how tough it can be it sounds like he's enjoying it to some extent and really thriving.  Hope you all get news soon and perhaps some phone calls this weekend. Enjoy you holiday everyone! 20 days and 11 something hours to go - YAY!  We just booked our flight today with Southwest - can't wait!!!

YAY for letters!!!! and YAY for booking.WE are driving ( from Long Island) I need to have a car there plus my husband hates to fly..My parents are flying in from Florida and meeting us there. I can not believe 20 days!! It's so close...I pray for calls this weekend..HAPPY GOOD FRIDAY!!! God Bless
