Hi singlelady! It takes 2-3 weeks or so to get the Form Letter regarding address and PIR date. Go ahead and start writing those letters, seal the envelope and number them on the back. As soon as you get the address send them all, your SR will love it. My sons PIR is next week and really has come pretty fast. After I got the Form Letter it got somewhat easier knowing I could now send the letters I had written. It does get a little easier every week and much better when you get your first letter from your SR. Keep in mind "no news is good news" (I always yell FOR WHO after I repeat that :) ), but it does work. Join the New Members Stop Here  group lots of good info there as to what they are doing. Good luck and vent all you want we all have! You should start to see rumblings of more people whos SR left at the same time yours did, and then a plea from FireTeamLeadersWife for someone to start a group.

thank you for your words of encouragement and knowledge of the routine...good idea about the letters too, thanks so much...can we send pictures with our letters?  i believe one mom had said she sent a large envelope for him to keep all his letters in...maybe i mis-understood...

I have not sent "regular" pictures, only those that I have printed several on a sheet of copy paper until today. That picture is a wallet sized picture of his grandpa (who has passed away) in his officers uniform in front of "his" ship in 1951. They can have some pictures I understand but don't have a lot of room for everything. I am sure a veteran mom on here will correct me if I am wrong. Some moms have sent large envelopes with postage attached so they could send some home before PIR. I have not sent a large envelope to my son, he said he didn't want one yet, but asked if I could bring one to PIR to bring all of his letters home with me.

thanks for the info...i really appreciate it!  have a blessed day!

We have a Survival Guide for Navy For Moms Newbie (clickable link). You'll find everything you need to get started. Videos, PDF files of boot camp processing days, links to all the important groups plus tips on how to use this site. Keep in mind the videos and PDF files may take some time to download the first time you try it. It'll look like nothing is happening. Be patient. Best part is it'll be here on your very own page as a reference. Click the MY PAGE tab on above menubar to access your page anytime - you should do it at least once a day to see if you have any postings on your comment wall (like this one). Good luck.

Do you know if they let us bring dogs to the PIR?

No, they do not, unless it is a certified service animal.

so excited and counting the days till PIR...june 1st!!  my question is...does everyone walk in to the ceremony at the same time and sit together, i know there are 4 on his list, are we called in by name or what...forgive me if this has already been asked, i missed the answer...i know it's first come first serve for others not on the list...we do have a free shuttle from our motel to the graduation.  thanks for your help!

singlelady.....click on the http address that I left you above....lots of support and info there in your PIR group.

The people on the list all just kinda line up and go into a huge gymnasium type of building. Each division is marked with a sign to indicate where to sit. There are videos and other things going on. Then the music starts and the HUGE doors at the ends of the building roll up and the divisions start marching in....one at a time. Then they march in formation and line up by division. They have to stand at atttention the entire time (about an hour a half)There is nothing like the sound and sight of this!!!
