Hello!  My son is also in this division. We have received two letters - no phone calls.  Last letter we received was on Friday which he wrote the previous Sunday.  it was short.  He had to have his wisdom teeth pulled so was on light duty.  He said he would get his phone card on Wednesday - but never received a call.  Have been waiting to hear his voice.  He left on the 11th and it has been so long since we were able to talk to him.  So thankful for this discussion group so that I know what others are going thru also.

we haven't gotten a call either.  maybe today,,,,

Hello! Welcome to the group. Sorry to hear about the teeth pulled and no phone call yet. That waiting period is so hard. It can come at any time though. I've heard of people getting morning calls and all the way in to evening calls so you never know! Maybe this weeks letter will explain what happened. Should be here today! :) Can't wait for PIR! 30 days exactly!!!!

Hello...my son is in SHIP 11 DIV 141...am I in the right spot?

Yes!  welcome to you and Jlynn.  Jlynn, you asked about section leader, my son is a section leader.  You might try looking it up on google.  There is a pretty good explanation out there.  It does mean that they are under scrutiny a lot though, and responsible for the people under them and their readiness particularly when it comes to inspections from what I can tell.  And I think they will be in the second row at graduation if they are still in the position then.  He said they all got fired, then rehired later the same day.  Sounds like the RDCs were shaking things up a bit.  We have not had a phone call from him yet.  He was on watch when all the other calls came last week.  We are getting regular letters though now which is nice!  He said a lot of recruits have left the division for a variety of reasons.  Discharges, going back to relearn, etc.  But also said that there are some really good people there.  His letter dated last Saturday said the division is making some good progress now.

My son had his wisdom teeth removed around the first couple days of April...2 days in his rack and 1 day light duty...I believe it was on his light duty day he ran the mile and a half and passed.  I didnt think when he went to Boot Camp it would get to me so much but I have to admit, I have really struggled.  He is my last one out of the nest so that may be part of it.  What also has made me really feel for him is probably in his 3rd week he received a letter from his girlfriend, breaking up with him...my heart was so broken for him.  It put me in mama bear mode real quick but I just had to do alot of praying.  His recent letters though are marked with integrity and strength so he seems to have processed the situation enough to be able to stay focused.  An answered prayer : )

That says a lot about your son, how he reacted to a difficult situation!  He will be a very good sailor!

Hello ladies!  Welcome to the roller coaster of BC.  Just wanted to report I was lucky enough to receive 2 letters today from my son.  He passed his swim test!  Big YEAH on that one seeing how he could not swim.  He says that he has been talking to 3 others and they all think it's cool that us moms/dads are getting to know each other as they are.  There was a SR from NJ last begins with a N along with one that's last name begins with a M and of course Gail's son.  He sounds good and said he missed the 1st call due to a filling and they should get another call in the next week.  He said in the letter from Sunday that since they are working as a team now the got to learn their singing cadences and will get to start using them.  Sounds like they are getting there.

@ Annette, I wonder if your son was talking about my husband! Last name McCracken. He said he's been hanging out with domsmom's son, from NJ so maybe! He also said he made a friend named Beasley. Anybody know him?

@ jedds I'm so sorry to hear about your sons struggles/ Makes me sad for him. I'm glad he's taking everything so well though. The boys seem to really be pulling together and being there for one another. Making a good team and a good div. :)

My husband is also a section leader. Well, was as of last phone call :) We shall see. He said it's hard because they take a lot of reprimand if something isn't right but he said everybody was really starting to get the hang of it and time was moving much faster for him. At least it is for one of us :)

Thank you, rlmb and littlefoot, for your kind words...I received 3 letters from my son this week, he also related of several who have been discharged or moved back (unsure of the proper term), he said, 'I just keep my head down and do as I'm told'...seems to be a helping so far!  He said in one of his earlier letters, 'Those videos you watch about Boot Camp are ridiculous, they are nothing near what goes on here'...but he seems now to just expect the days to be full of challenges and at least his mind is prepared.

I read somewhere that the RDC's read these posts...does anyone know if this is true?

I really doubt that. They would have to keep track of so many. Somebody told me they read every letter sent to the SR's too but when you think about it, they would never get anything else done. I believe that they probably skim all the letters. Look them over and make sure they don't see anything blatantly inappropriate in there and then pass it on. That's just a guess though. I wonder if they still get mail Saturday and Sundays since the post office on base isn't open on those days. I guess probably not, but my SR hasn't mentioned it.

Phone call!!!!!  yay!!!
