Just sent a copy of the N4M questionnaire found in the dicussion form to my son. I know it will not only make him smile but I can get the 411 about the division and his experience. I know my son does not like to give a great deal of detail, so the questionnaire should help. Really soon to ask but has anyone heard from their recruit other than the form letter? Recognizing that they are extremely busy, I look forward to hearing from them.

Hi Penguin, I felt exactly the same way, I expected it to say Dear Mom, and I thought he would have been able to write a note on the back.  He actually always wrote in all caps, but the letters were so perfectly uniform that I didn't think it was his writing... I want to get a letter and the quetionnaire out today, really missing his smiling face.  He always managed to stay positive about things, I sure hope that he is still able to do that at Boot Camp...

I am in the same boat with a high school graduation on the same day as PIR. I might just have to fly in after the hs grad and miss the PIR but spend the rest of the weekend with him. He will have his grandparents and girlfriend in attendance...but it still breaks my heart that it worked out this way.

Lori

anyone in florida?

Me! :)  We're near Jacksonville...what part of Florida are you in?

Me too. I didn't even know if he had printed it or not because I have never seen his writing look like that. The all CAPS threw me off. But I have to say he did a good job, looked neat. On the "Dear" line, yes its weird to have your child call you by your first name. This site really helps it makes me feel better that all of us are experiencing the same thing.

I noticed the all CAPS too, and Daniel also put slashes through the zeros that he wrote in the date and address - that's definitely a new thing for him!! I could tell he tried to write in his neatest handwriting (which, of course, I think is adorable). :)

If you guys notice, the Dear___ line was to our names because that page of the letter was signed by the RTC Commander not our sons..that is why our names were used and it wasn't made out to mom.

Shell, I haven't looked for flights much yet, but heard Southwest doesn't fly to O'Hare, and not sure if I want to fly to Midway and have a 2 hour drive...?  Heading out to a baby shower today, so will really start researchng this tomorrow!  I hope to find an economical way to do this, because I get to do it all over again in July with my other son!

What company has the best deals on airfare and car rental?   Flying from Portland, OR

Is it better to fly into O'Hare or Midway?

Do most people leave on Saturday after PIR, or is it best to book the flight home for Sunday, in case there's a chance our SR won't leave until later Saturday?  How soon will they know when they ship out after PIR? I'm coming from Calif...

I'm wondering the same thing...after reading through some of the other forums, it seems like it's different for everyone - but I did see some posts about sailors that were given Liberty through Sunday or even Monday after PIR. I would really hate to book our flights to leave on Sunday and find out that we could have spent one more whole day with him...

We are coming from CA as well and have decided to stay till Monday just in case he has liberty through Sunday.  If not, if he leaves early, we decided we will just hang out in Chicago.
