how much leave did they really get?  where is your sailor now?  do we need to take him anything?

addy

They have weekend liberty which is 6:30am until10:00 pm each day. My sailor stayed at GL for dive prep. I answered your last question on the next page since it would be good for the whole group to read.

have any of you checked out your SR's future group and/or joined? (ex, diver group, swcc group, etc) Just wondering if you are doing that now or waiting till PIR?

I have joined the A school group. Any other suggestions?

so is the A school group for the location or the rate? Ther are some groups specific to the rate but some A schools have more than one rate training there. (Ex. would be the GL location).

A school in GL.

so is there a group specific to what your SR will be in training for as well? Since 811 covers different rates, I am not sure what would be specific for y'all-diver mom,eod moms, etc but do know from looking around that there seems to be a group available for what they will be doing.

I was just wondering if anyone has joined up or is waiting till PIR. I notice that moms, etc seem to join after graduation. No one has mentioned here if they have joined any "future" groups yet.

I joined every group that seemed like it would fit me right now or in the future, like the Mom's of Navy Divers group.

The letter I received today said a guy took a photo of the back of my son's head when he was in line to throw away his trash and put his dishes away in the galley.  So I'll be looking for that on the RTC facebook page! Maybe others from the same division will be in that photo!

He said they're starting to realize that their RDC's are probably the "chillest" ones at boot camp.  That's good to hear! He said there's a new guy in the group who got rolled back and is one of them now.  He's been in boot camp since February. So now they have 81.

His letters to me now seem to make me bust out with belly laughs instead of breaking down in tears.  I'm so thankful for the change in his mental state.

Great questions!!!!!!!! I hope I answer all, but if I don't, ask this pea brain mom again! I'm sorry I didn't respond last night. It's prom season and I make bowties and cummerbunds for all the high school guys. Fun times!

He had to use his phone card to call us after PIR to let us know he was ready . When he got to the hotel, we handed him the phone.

Discounts. You have to ask for them, even if he's standing there in his uniform. Even stores give discounts. Our son's girlfriend bought a pair of shoes with his discount.

Church- we went off base. I had done some research before we left. We are Presbyterian, so I gave him the choice of 4 churches close to base.

I don't know anything about the security phone call. My son didn't call for anything security. I guess his recruiter had done an excellent job of getting all that information prior to his leaving.

Our son contracted to be a diver. He had a meeting Sunday night to learn the details, but we didn't talk to him last night, so I can't answer that one yet. I would imagine leave is determined by how many they have in each class, much the same as BC filling the divisions.

Food. We stayed at the Residence Inn because our sailor wanted us to bring barbeque from his favorite restaurant. They serve breakfast, we ate out for lunch, then came back to the hotel for supper. We all loved it because we had extra time with our sailor where he could let his hair down and we didn't have to worry about others listening to our conversation. Plus that, it was less expensive. There is a Walmart close by, so I picked up chips and dip from there. As a sideline, we put everything in a cooler to bring to GL. Southwest requires a container that does not leak, no styrofoam. My suggestion is to put everything in a cheap styrofoam cooler which is then put in a box. That way you can throw it away when finished with it.

We didn't check him out, so he must have done that himself.

Aaronsmom, our son, the youngest of three boys and a girl, left for college six years ago, so we've been empty nesters for awhile. When someone asked my husband how long it took us to being used to being empty nesters, he responded, " As long as it took the first batch of margaritas to come out of the blender!".

Bob was beaming from ear to ear after he heard the word LIBERTY. The division had not met some of their milestones, so phone calls were rare. I think Bob said mail was delivered regularly. He told me that even the letters I sent with our company's letterhead drew a comment. Keep them simple. Bob loved the food at BC. He said he didn't take advantage of fourth meals because he knew that the change in diet would screw up his stomach. His girlfriend is in med school, so she had warned him of these things. Also, she told him to eat as many lemons as he could, for extra vitamin C. Bob said he felt that was the reason why he didn't get sick.

I was like all of you. The more details, the better. I couldn't get enough. Keep asking questions.
When you go to PIR, take water and something on which to sit - a coat, raincoat or towel.

There will be a long line on Buckley Rd turning right into the entrance at PIR. Here's the secret. Get in the left lane on Buckley Rd. While everyone else is turning right into the base, you take a left. Go up a little way and do a u-turn. You'll have a straight shot in because there is a traffic light. We left the Residence Inn at 6:45 and were in our seats at 7:01. RTC does an excellent job of getting everyone in effeciently. We went upstairs and had a front row seat. Take binoculars so you can see your sailor's face. Watching his face when liberty was announced was priceless!

Our sailor found a fellow SR who had an extra spot on his list, so he was able to put his girlfriend's name on the other SR's list. With your group having on 8 divisions, no one will have a problem getting in.

What was the temp like inside the hall? About like it was outside ? Warmer? Anything that you wished that you had brought but didn't ? anything that you found that you didn't need to bring?
