Thanks for the info, Do you know if we can get a copy of his medical records? We are very worried about him.

My son is getting out as well. Medical reasons. They all have that class to go to when being discharged. It gives them information about what is services are offered to them once they are out. I forget the name of it. Guess I should ask my kid.

If its the right one Its TAPS  ..Transition Assistance Program

If his discharge is honorable. His GI bill is worth something. If you Google discharge and GI bill you can find more into on it.

I thought that for a administrative discharge they had to go to a discharge review board?   That can take several weeks.

Where is your son stationed  at?  My son is going to the taps this week. He is in Yokosuka Japan.

Your son is going to have to get the records unless you have a medical POA. If you don't I highly suggest that you have him get one. The Navy will draw one up free of charge.

My son is in the states.

Thank you for your info. This has been some help.  I sure hope he gets home soon. We just want to get him some help. He has not been happy in Japan.

Dwhitlock Sorry to hear about your son. How long has he been in the navy and over in Japan?

Hi kate

Navy he went in 2011 Japan June 2011 So he has been in Japan almost a year.

This has been A NIGHT MARE.  When he graduated in May we went to see him, He came home for 2 weeks then off to Japan. We have only got to see him by Skype since then.

Your son needs to ask for his medical record.  He has been in for more than 180 days...so he won't get an admin discharge...he needs to talk to the people at PSD and see what kind of dischage he is getting.

As far as the medical treatment HE needs to go to the VA near your home and seek treatment there...the USN isn't going to just tell him where to go.

Also HE needs to see if he can start his VA claim asap...that is where he tries toclaim the depression and get disablity money...BUT that process takes at least if not more than a year to get a response back from the VA.
