My sr said a body snatcher roams the PIR looking for and helping out recruits who may faint at the ceremony. He said it is a common experience (the fainting). Recruits are standing at attention for a long period of time. I'm not sure if the audience is fainting as well LOL. Also said that the 929 is the best division or honor division as they are picked for this division instead of assigned.
Any phone calls yet?
I got my call just over an hour ago. I posted something on karis_ship "other" string, but was pointed to this string. My son is also a Body Snatcher, had his wisdom teeth pulled (he said they all did who had any). He is tired but hanging in there. They are an all-male division, so they can push them harder on the physical training. In addition to the regular work in Basic, they are doing the staff work, which I guess is supporting the other divisions in the PIR - as someone said above. He also asked us to keep the mail coming and to include any news about what's happening on the outside. Wants a deep-dish pizza and a nap. So far is it Karis_ship and Nrainygrl the only ones from 929? I'm having a little trouble navigating this site - I was reading all sorts of things about the 929 from 2011 and 2010!
Oh - I see pmons is 929, also. I forgot to say thank you - were it not for this site, I would not have known about the rumor we might get calls today. I made sure I was available when I otherwise normally would not have been!
I am in the Pacific time zone and got my call about 3pm my time. My son said they are all male. I am sure everyone will get a call - there is a PDF on this site of what goes on at boot camp and how they all get to call about now. They may have run out of time for today or your son may have been on watch or something. He'll get his turn. I asked if there were any who did not get any mail - he said no, everybody got something. I am looking forward to going to Chicago for the first time even though my son will have to check in for A school right across the street immediately after their graduation and may not be available until later in the day. There are at least a couple of others in his same rating who will also start A school there right away. I saw some people in the Chat Room today who are there for today's PIR and they had to wait until late in the day to go back and pick up their son because he had to do a turn on watch until late afternoon. Hard to get used to for us first-timers, but I sure am proud. I'll take whatever time we can get with him - even if all he wants to do is sleep.
i waswork but my husband talked to him for about 15 minutes, said he sounded good and he told him to tell me that he was ok and actually having a good experience at boot camp.he too had wisdom teeth pulled but said he was fine.i hate that i missed his call,i just need to hear his voice but at least he is ok so i dont worry so much now.
i live in indiana and received my call about 6 p.m. I am praying that those of you who didn't get a call yesterday get your call today!!
Here is the response I received from lemonelephant about what the 900 Divisions do: There are 3 types of 900 divisions. There are the Band/Bluejacket Choir/Drill team, otherwise known as Triple Threat (the musicians, singers, and drill team), the Sticks (those who carry the state flags), and the Ship Staff/Honor Guard (the body snatchers, those who guard various things...). Three 900 divisions perform their duties at each PIR, the 900 division(s) from that TG and if needed one to three 900 divisions from the next one or two TG's. Each 900 Division performs in their own PIR and in the PIR for one or two TGs ahead of their own. They may also have performances in the community.
