My son's bunk mate he said was from South Carolina. That is where John (my son) will go to A school after boot camp. Congrats to him gettin 5's on inspections, i have Navy and Marine retired friends that said that is a GREAT thing them making 5's on inspection. Whoo Hoooo

Hi all, which meet & greets are you all planning on attending? I sure would like to get as many of us at one location if possible. I was going to start at Sarge's and then decide from there to attend the others. Please post to let everyone know. Only 18 days!!! Thanks, Patty

I had originally planned on going to the Ramada's meet & greet, but since I changed my reservation, and am no longer staying at the Ramada, I was thinking that Sarge's meet and greet sounded like a good one to attend. Our flight arrives at Chicago Midway at 4:35 on Thursday evening,  so after we get our luggage, get our rental car and drive to Waukegan, hopefully we will have time to be able to meet up with everyone. Sarge's is from 5:30 to 9, right? Can't believe it is almost May and that I'll be flying to Chicago in 17 more days! Looking forward to meeting everyone and seeing our soon-to-be Sailors!    Kathy

My heart is heavy today. Just found out that my son's best childhood friend and soccer buddy was killed in an automobile accident. Gone too soon at the age of 22. Of course, I don't want to tell Tommy while he's going through Boot Camp. Not a good time for sure. But when is a good time? Don't want to put a damper on our whole weekend together either.  Getting excited for PIR, but having a hard time dealing with these feelings. Just had to get that off of my chest.  Kathy

Oh I am soo sorry for you and your son!  My heart goes out to you!  You're right - when would be a good time to tell him?  I know I had some info witheld from me when I was pregnant and I was furious when I found out much later - but these kids are going through so much to have that burden on his mind.  I guess you'll have to tell him after PIR.  That's a tough call to make!  Sending you prayers!

My heart goes out to you too.  I too need to tell my son of a friend of his that was killed in a car accident this past Saturday.  I have decided to wait until after PIR and have asked his friends to not say anything in any letters that they may be sending him.

Prayers and thoughts are sent your way for your family and the family of your son's friend.

Patty

Kathy and Patty, I am so sorry to hear. Unfortunately some of us will have sad news for our SR's but I too believe waiting until we see them is best.

Thanks Trevor's mom.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and prayers. It helps more than you know. I'm so sorry that you are going through the same thing, Patty. It's tough, but unfortunately a part of life. I agree about waiting until after PIR, because there is nothing our SR's can do about it and they are going to need their full concentration as they finish these last difficult weeks of BC.

Just dawned on me this morning that when we tell our SR about his friend will have to be before we give him his phone and laptop. He'll probably check his facebook when he gets these things back so we'll have to time it accordingly.

Ah, I had not thought about that!  Hopefully, you will be able to celebrate some before he asks for his electronics.  Prayers are with you.

Hi all...

We are also starting at Sarge's for the meet and greet, probably going on to others as well.

Sorry to hear about the friends who were killed in auto accidents. It'll certainly be a shock for your SRs as it was for the rest of their friends. I would agree with everyone else who responded to waiting until after PIR to tell them.

VAMom...my son will also be attending A school in South Carolina...he's doing the Nuke program.

Battlestations is coming up soon...gosh, can't wait to hear Stephen's voice.  Can't wait to see him in 15 days!!!
