My son is going to San Antonio too. As of the other day he said they were leaving at like 1:30 in the morning.
I hope you are right and things coud change so that they would leave later on sat. Even so I plan on being at the airport to see him off no matter what time it is!
Nrain hopefully you will get your call soon..... I' m sure your SR wants to hear from you as badly as you want to hear from them!
Where abuts in WA. do you live? I used to live up in the Blaine, Birch Bay area many moons ago. Loved it up there!

I have been out of town for the weekend but did get my call on Friday @ about 5:00 CST. My son sounded good - said he is enjoying his experience. His A School will be in Great Lakes. We are driving in for the PIR - we only live about 3 hours away in WI. He wants us to bring his dog so we will have to stay at the Motel 6. He had 30 minutes for his call - after about 15 minutes with me said he wanted to call some friends :(  Left the house and came home to his voice on our machine saying he still had a little time left to talk. I wouldn't have left had I have known he might call back!!! I didn't know the 929 was an all male division? He did say news from the outside world would be welcome - I think I am going to send him some of my Time Magazines. We don't have much longer moms!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, I lived up there about 20 years ago and loved it. Actually had a great apt. Right on the bay. My son was born in Texas too! We moved away shortly after he was born and he hasn't been back ther since.
My SR told us that we couldn't give him his phone until we see him off at the airport. Is yours going to "A" school in great lakes?
He was born in Beaumont TX. Moved back here to INdiana where my family lives shortly after and he has lgrown up here.
I love the midwestern feel but always said I could move back to WA. Birch BAy is the last town you go through before getting into Canada. It was very small but really neat. I loved the mountains up there and all the hiking. We can do a lot of hiking here too , but no mountains!!
Has your SR said how soon he will have to leave? Pensacola is nice. we are going on vacation down there to siesta key in July. It sure does get hot! But then so does Texas! I was pregnant down there all through the summer until Sept. it was miserable!!

Does anyone know about these "colors" or "ribbons" we should be wearing to PIR? I was planning on wearing a dress but I am not sure about these ribbons or colors.

I emailed the lady about the ribbons. We don't have to have them. When I know something I will post about it.

we got our call on Friday evening! We were a little disappointed that we only got a few min. apparently he had trouble with his phone card, but thankful for whatever. He will be a door guard, which means we probably wont see him during the ceremony. He also is headed to Pensacola for A school the very next morning. He told us to keep the letters coming as everyone loves mail call. He said he has met lots of other fellow christians, which was good to hear!

Nrainygrl,

He mentioned he would be leaving sat. morning didnt say what time. They got their first mail call at the 2 week point on thursday. He said everyone was very emotional, he got 15 letters! It may be that your son was on duty during call time and not sure if they get another chance til the end. We got letters from him last wed. and he said they were just being able to take the time to write. I sure hope he is one of those meeting together for prayer. He did mention they were praying for each other! We were disappointed that we would not be able to see him during the pir ceremony as the door guard salutes and stands guard on the outside of the door. But just trying to stay thankful!

thanks for the encouragement. Im so glad you heard from him! God has never failed us. Our sr is my nephew, who we helped to raise, so very much like ours. That is wonderful that your son was assigned to Religious Petty officer! Ours did not mentioned a job within the div. yet. The letters we received yesterday were very short due to time.

will be in prayer for your husband's job!

We live in central Indiana about 15 min east of Indy. Siesta key is way south of Pensacola. But my bro in law is from Pensacola and went to college there. He really liked it. There is a lot to do in the area. Is your SR supposed to be stationed there after " A" school? Just wondering since you said something about him knowing someone there for Christmas.
What ribbons are you talking about? That's the first that I have heard anything about those.
I bet you hear from him before PIR! Mine said something about them being able to call the week before. WHo knows maybe we will all get a surprise call again soon!

This is the info about the ribbons;
Hi, let me say thanks so much for your interest in the ribbons and/or other handmade items. It is definitely not too late to order :-) You will find info below for ordering and directions for paying for your order. I will be sending you a second email with some helpful tips for PIR. If you have any questions at all you can reach me on Navy for Moms (Lala Ribbon Queen), email me or give me a call. My email is uniquememorymakers@yahoo.com and my number is 828-242-2721.
My number one priority is to help families get through the bootcamp experience. I spend several hours a day on websites looking for any questions that need answered. I also pay it forward by making ribbons and other handcrafted military themed items. I have had the opportunity to meet many families and make ribbons for them to wear to such a special occasion and to show how much they support their Sailor. I first made the ribbons for my own family to wear to support our Sailor/daughter who finished bootcamp in July of 2010. The ribbons are also are a great way to recognize other families from the same division, and they make a great keepsake.
Other Items I make and sell: Little Girls Sundresses with a machine appliquéd anchor, Window decals/bumper stickers, scrapbook embellishments for Military scrapbooks, tote bags and Kindle/E-Reader Bags (can be personalized with Names, anchors etc), Blue Candles, Fleece scarves with a machine appliquéd anchor on them as well. Many of the divisions in the cooler months get scarves to match. Just let me know if you would like more info on any of the other items I make. You can see pictures of all the items I make on my facebook page Unique Memory Makers. I am currently working on my website and hope to have it finished soon.
