HI Navy Moms,

Got a letter today from my SR.  812 just finished weapons.  My SR said he scored just below expert (he is a hunter).  He said it was the best week they have had thus far.  He also mentioned that they took picture this week, in their dress whites.  He mentioned that they got their orders for BUDs.  Everyone is so excited.  It sounds like they all are getting upper respiratory infections.  Probably due to the lack of sleep because he mentioned that he was lucky to get a full 6 hours this past Saturday night.  I like the rest of you can hardly wait to see my Son. Does anyone know if they are able to stay with their parents over the weekend or do they have to go back to their ship at night?

@ Proud-Mom Linda, Everything that I have read says they have to be back at their new barracks at night and they can't be late.  What I read said that if one person is late to return, the whole division could have their free time revoked and not get to see family.  I also read sometimes it takes quite a bit of time to get back on base and then a good amount of time for them to walk back to be where they're supposed to be.  What does it mean "they got their orders for BUDs?"  Is that just verifying that they are going into PreBUDs next?

My son also had a "5.0" in his letter for Personal Inspection which means no points were missed.  He said he missed one point on Weapons Inspection because his line didn't come to attention when they were supposed to.  What I wrote earlier about one of the SR getting a perfect score, it was on "Live Fire", so maybe that was for the SR who got "Expert",  Did I already say they are all exhausted.  My son says the SR's nod off and then bounce awake!  He said they have Zone Inspections coming up which they have to have everything perfect in their compartments.  The inspectors come in and tear everything apart!  He said they won't be in there which is good or they would have to stand at attention for another three hours!   I can't even imagine that.

@Navy Wife33, what are "soft orders?"  I haven't heard that term yet.

Thank you to everyone who is posting their SR's news, it helps fill in some of the questions and blanks that I can't figure out from my son's letters.  Oh, I can't even wait to see him and hug him!

God bless you all!

Hi Ladies .... So glad to hear letters are coming in .... and also good to hear how your recruits are doing !

I know its that time already ..... We will be printing passes next week !! woohoooo !!

God Bless !!

@mamaroo, he didn't detail "soft orders" but this would give him an idea when he will be headed to Coronado, if he will get time off, etc. Hopefully our SRs hear something soon! :)

Hi Navy Wife33 .... In one of my sons letters he mentioned "transition leave" ..... hmmmm hoping time off between pre-buds and buds ...yay.

We are getting closer and closer... Have a great weekend everyone..... !!!

Since PIR is approaching quickly, for those of you who will continuing to PreBuds there will be a private group set up for you to join after PIR. Because it is private, you will have to request to join. To make the approval process quicker it is recommended that your page be set to private. Its easy to do. Go to your page, and click on settings on the right side, then on the left side click privacy. Set your privacy setting to "friends only". If you need help or have any questions, please let me know. Jaimers will be creating the group and it makes her job a lot easier if the pages already set.

Is it only the SEAL boys that head to "PreBuds"? A FB friend said SWCCs go to PreBuds as well? Anyone know?

Hello all....just want you to know that all of your info is very helpful. Though I don't post often, I do read almost daily and have found many of the things discussed either reiterated from my son's letters or clarified for me. THANKS!! He gave a list of things he'd like from home in his last letter; I'm not sure how many things he may have. I know there was more postings of this nature that I read elsewhere on this site....I'll have to search. Anyone know for sure what they may have from home? He's going to pre-BUDS next.

Hello Shummies,

My son will be heading to pre-buds as well.

Im sure you already have the basics which are the phone, laptop and his requests, also change of civies (for when they phase up), boxers, low cut socks, I heard superfeet (shoe inserts are highly recomended). running shoes, compression shorts (one of his request).....For PIR Im bringing him some lounge around clothes like sweats and stuff...so when we go back to the hotel he can relax in those. The rest of the stuff we will just pick up there.

@ Cor / Sjtina .... can you guys recommend anything else that is a must have for pre-buds ?

Thank you

Above is a link to the Gurnee Mills Mall site.... They have everything there. Just in case you forget to bring something Im sure you willl find it there... You also have the NEX on base and the Larger one off base.

There are many other stores surrounding the mall area, like Best Buys, Verizon Wireless to name a few.

Restaurant: Olive Garden, Joes Crabshack, Steak N Shake (Hamburger/shakes/Dinner food) Ruby Tuesday, Ihops, Starbucks to name a few...

Definately the Superfeet, but they were not available at the Gurnee Mall. That could of changed though. We googled stores in the area and found them. My son wanted sunglasses and a waterprooof watch, but he was picky about what he wanted so the mall was perfect for that.

We took the basics with us to PIR, laptop, cell phone, and ipod. Since they are now wearing dress whites, its a good idea to have wet naps. My son said they didnt even want to sit down in them, really hard to keep clean. It was dress blues in October, so that wasnt a problem. Also 800 div do not get dessert at chow, so if they may be missing their favorite treat.

They will have their own personal closet that is not subject to inspection to store personal items, but they may ask you to send things later once they get settled.
