@ stephensmom....thank you for your condolences.

Good Morning everyone,  sorry I've been so absent in the past week or so.  Finishing up a grad class, navigating a junior prom...  life goes on even with a SR to worry about.  To tommy's mom and proud mom 628, I am so sorry to hear about your SR's loss.  I have worried about something like this happening and told myself the same thing, I would not tell him until after PIR.  It is the right decision.  He cant change it and needs to focus.  Is there something he can do to honor his friend?  Has a fund been set up or a suggested donation charity so he feels he is participating?  Maybe to the soccer team from their school.  I always feel a bit better if I can honor my friends in some way when I cant be at the service.

While I dont have anything tragic to share with my SR, his best friends since 1st grade is on a bad life trajectory and my SR's twin sister and group of friends are trying to intervene, but its a scary time for all his friends. He will not be shocked at the news, but will be sad that he is not around to support his best friend. I guess these are life's lessons of joining the Navy, things will happen while they are out at sea, they will need to learn how to make peace with missing some events.

On another note... have any of you received any idea of when our SR's might go through battle stations? I know we cant post here but we could friend each other and share the date. I have no idea. MY SR writes me but does not answer many of my questions. His grl friend gets lots of letters but no info on BS. I would love an idea of when to expect the "Im a sailor call". From the letters I receive it seems the div is doing well. Did anyone hear about more flags or the Marlin thing? I dont even know if he sleeps on the top or bottom bunk. I sent a self addressed stamped envelope with a questionarie...do you think he returned it?? No. Some things even mother navy cant change :)

On the RTC face book page there is a picture of a group marching and someone said it was ship 4 div 152. I dont think we have a ship 4 div 152. could they mean div 151? I looked but did not see my SR Has anyone else seen their SR?
Less then two weeks now and we will be at PIR. Now my sleepless nights are not from worry but from excitement at seeing him in his whites at PIR!!

Happy Weekend!
Karen

Hi Karen! Sounds like you have been busy. At least it makes the time pass faster! Thanks for your concern and for the suggestions about some way to honor my SR's friend's memory. I'll have to look into that. And you're right about that being one of the things that they are going to have to get used to since life does go on and things will happen while they are out at sea. So this is just the first lesson and hopefully our SR's will be able to deal with the life changes(whatever they may be) and make peace with them in a healthy way.

My SR said that they designed their division flag and it has 3 devil skulls on an anchor. He said their division flagged for test scores of 4.3 out of 5. So that's good. As of a couple of weeks ago, their division flagged for Academics (Had to get 4.0 or higher), had just flagged for two more things and were expected to flag in a couple more days (Don't know what the last 3 were for). So it sounds like they are doing good!

I know Battle stations is coming up soon, but I  haven't heard of a specific date. I was told that I might be receiving a phone call around the 10th or 11th. So maybe.....

I also hear that the RDC's are reading our posts and that they are reading some of our posts aloud, so keep your comments general. Through some of the discussions I've been in for another division, I learned that it was expected to happen and that warning was given about 3 weeks ago. I think it is to show the SR's how easy it is for the enemy to infiltrate and find out information about them. Good thing to keep in mind when it comes to our Sailor's safety.

I keep looking for my SR in the pictures on the RTC facebook page as well. Haven't seen him in any yet. I thought he was in one of the pictures a few weeks ago, but he said it wasn't him. I still enjoy seeing the other SRs and getting a glimpse into their world.

Can't believe how close we're getting to the end of BC. I'm so excited for PIR too that I can hardly stand it! It is going to be awesome!

Kathy

Thanks for the updates.  I wondered what their division flag would look like.   How smart of the RDC's to use this site to make a very valid point about internet info and safety.   I wish the high schools could do something like that.   The kids just dont understand.   Great list of things to bring to PIR....I keep asking my SR what he might need me to bring for the next phase.  I think as long as I show up with the iphone he will be good to go  :)

Yes, you have been very busy.  Hopefully, being busy will have made this 8 weeks go by a bit quicker for you. :)  I love your idea of looking to see if there is some sort of fund for my SR's friend.  I will definitely check into that for him.

I'm so sorry to hear of your SR's best friend.  I will certainly pray that the concern that your SR's twin and his group of friends have will open his eyes and turn whatever it is that he is doing around.

Take care and thank you for taking the time to write about both SR's loss of friends.

13 more days! :)

Patty

                                                               Boot Camp Mom's Prayer

God bless my recruit as he meets this day

I pray that he has the strength to find his way

As reveley wakes him so loud and clear

I pray your love will lead him, and he will show no fear

If there's danger and if there's strife

Please send Angels to guard his life

Keep him safe and hold him near

Bless my recruit, I hold him dear

Until he moves on to PIR day

Bring peace to our hearts

And strength to our faith

Found this on another site and thought I'd share :)

What things do I need to bring to my SR for use after PIR?

  • Some ideas from the 'vet Moms:" Tennis shoes, cell phones/ ipods (and their chargers), boxers, socks, compression shorts and Superfeet, a couple of sets of workout clothes, one set of "civies" for Phase II liberty, sunglasses, watch, favorite "comfort" food (cookies, brownies for example)

What are "Superfeet?"

  • Superfeet is a brand of insoles for boots or sneakers. They absorb some of the impact. They are very popular and cost about $30(ish).
  • Here's a link for more information: Superfeet

Is there a mall close by?

  • Yes, the Gurnee Mall looks to be close by.
  • Here's the link that can provide you with stores and location: GURNEE MALL
  • Also found on another site. Sounds very helpful!

Gurnee Mills Mall is awesome and HUGE. You and your Sailor will see lots of Sailors there on Friday after PIR. Just be aware of where you come in at. The mall is Z shaped and if you start at one end you have to come back the same way you went. There are no short cuts or pass through stores like you would have in a big square shaped mall. So keep track of time and allow for enough to back to the starting point before you have to leave. Here is a pic :-) Notice the Bass Pro, many of your hubby's and Sailors will be happy in there for hours lol.

Thanks for the info! :)

Sounds like a lot of us are going to Sarge's Meet and Greet Thurs May 17th from 5:30 to 9:00(at least initially)

Here's the info:

  • Be sure to RSVP to let Sarge know if you're coming
  • Here's the link for Sarge's Meet and Greet
  • Here's the address for Sarge's Meet and Greet:

                                        Sundance Event Center‎ (Sundance Saloon)
300 Lakehurst Road, Waukegan, IL 60085
                                        Fountain Square‎

What about ribbons?

  • If you're buying them you may want to consider "Lala's Ribbons" She needs a week notice to mail them without additional shipping charges.
  • Here's the link to LaLa's Ribbons/Unique Memory Makers
  • It's coming up quick!

Also, one more website I found that you might be interested in. They sell super cute personalized Military support jewelry at a very reasonable price. Unfortunately she's closed until May 15th, but you might still want to check it out.
