My daughter is in the process of enlisting. (Had to graduate first, then pay a traffic ticket) She is going to MEPS on Monday. At least that is what she is calling it. She has not signed any paperwork yet. In I have a meeting with her recruiter scheduled for tomorrow. In some of the posts that I've read, people speak of going to MEPS then leaving for BC the next day or in some cases as if MEPS were a part of BC. She'll leave whenever they tell her to go, lol, but just trying to clarify so I seem at least somewhat intelligent when speaking with her recruiter tomorrow! Thanks!

She is probably not going to BC right after going to MEPS. They have a long waiting period. They start at MEPS to do the Asvab test to see what they qualify to do. Then go back to MEPS for a physical and get ready for BC. You should have time with your daughter before she leaves.

Thanks Jean. She's already taken her ASVAB. So just not sure what's happening next. Like I said, not concerned, just trying to find out if there's a general order of business or if each one's different. (Obviously there's a difference in waiting periods depending on schools and need). Thanks for your speedy reply!

IF she is going to MEPS maybe there are getting the Physical out of the way and get her to pick her job.

That would be lovely! Just knowing would be cool. I do realize that we are probably in for a wait (time wise), so I'm more than likely just jumping the gun. Just want to do everything that I can to help make it a successful transition for her. (She, like we all probably did at 18, thinks she has everything under control, but I know that the more info you have the better prepared you are.) ;)

It is very confusing for them right now. She probably doesn't know what is going to happen and is probably a little scared. Just keep reassuring her and let her know that all will work out.

Thanks Jean! More good advise!

When my daughter first went to MEPS military enrollment processing station, it was to take medical all day thing and then choose her rating (job) and then signed her contract all in one day- that was January 31 then day before she left for boot camp stayed at hotel near MEPS, next morning went to MEPS for final medical, swearing in, where you can see her do that and then off to the airport which was may 29

Whew. Well, my daughter finally got to MEPS today. Signed the papers. Going in as an AO. Leaves July 17. Crazy emotions now rolling thru me! lol. Can't really prepare can you? She is soooooo excited and I am sooooo excited for her and sooooo not excited all at the same time!

I know how you feel. That is what I felt like when my daughter went in. Even though I had her whole life to prepare for it, it was still hard. We will be here for you when you will need it. The roller coaster has began.

MEPS just checks over some of the facts they gave, plus physicals are done. My daughter went several times, so I wouldn't worry about it. However, after she signs the papers and they give her a leave date, she will probably go again to sign the final papers (yes, there's tons of papers to sign) another medical, and leave from there. You have plenty of time, no worries.
